Default DevHook .44 Guide/FAQ

FAQ:

What is Devhook?

In short, Devhook is a homebrew application that allows a 1.50 PSP to emulate and run higher, official firmwares from the memstick. This includes features like running UMD games that require 2.00+ firmware, web browser, RSS feeds, and the Location Free player.

Should I install 2.5, 2.6, or 2.71?

It depends. 2.5 is a lot easier to install, because you don't have to track down hard-to-find, illegal files (reboot.bin). But, you can't play all games.

If finding reboot.bin isn't a problem, then do 2.6.

And if you want to do a little extra work, do 2.71, because it requires the flash1 files from 2.6.

Your psp isn't now a 2.50 or 2.60 or 2.71

Some people seem to think their psp is now 2.50 or 2.60 it is not just hold down the power button until the psp turns off completely, boot the psp back up and it will be back to 1.50. It never actually installs anything to the psp it just runs the dump from the mem-stick, if it made the psp update to 2.50 or 2.60 nobody would use it.

How to install new verions if you already have a previous version set up

Whenever you download a new version of DevHook you can insatall it without having to re-install the dump. When you have downloaded the latest version of devhook go into the MS_ROOT\PSP\GAME and remove the DevHook installer eboots. Now go back into the MS_ROOT folder so you are just presented with the folders dh and PSP, now just copy these two folders into the root of your mem-stick and then if a message comes up saying something like "If the files in the folder have the same name do you want to replace them?" click "yes to all".

Sound doesn't work in the flash player
Go to Settings->Sound->Keytone, and turn it on.

Step by step guide on how to setup DevHook 0.44 (firmware 2.50)

Before you start make sure you have a PSP with firmware 1.50

1. Download DevHook 0.44 from here

2. Go into the MS-Root folder in the DevHook download and copy the dh and psp folder onto the
root of your mem-stick

3. Download pbp unpacker from here

4. Download 2.50 update from here

5. Open the update with pbp unpacker and extract all the files to wherever you want (the file needed is the data.psar)

6. Get the data.psar from the extracted update and put that onto the root of your mem-stick

7. On the psp choose devhook installer and start that, then when you are in the eboot start the installer, at the end if you want to copy your flash1 read what is says on the screen, which should be something like "press O to copy flash1 registry files"

8. When everything is done open DevHook and use these settings:
UMD Select: (choose your iso, cso or --UMD DISC--)
UMD Mount: ISO ANYUMD
UMD Version: 2.xx > 2.00
Firmware: 2.50
CPU Clock: 222MHz / 111MHz (that is what I always use no problems)
Boot Select: Reboot XMB
Other: preload address: 0x88E00000 (tell me if this address doesn't work with 2.50)
*****REMOTE CTRL: Kprintf(115kbps) (not compulsary, unless you want to use the music remote)

When selecting a UMD Disc with the UMD Select option the other settings will be changed automatically so the UMD will run, the settings can be changed back later by pressing O when DevHook is auto-starting.

Step by step guide on how to setup DevHook 0.44 (firmware 2.60/2.71)

Before you start make sure you have a PSP with firmware 1.50

If you are planning on doing 2.71, you must first install 2.6, then install 2.71 next.

1. Download DevHook 0.44 from here

2. Go into the MS-Root folder in the DevHook download and copy the dh and psp folder onto the
root of your mem-stick

3. Download pbp unpacker from here

4. Download 2.60/2.71 update from 2.6/2.71

8. Download the decrypted 2.60/2.71 dump from somewhere I have a link but cannot provide it (the reboot.bin will be what is needed from the decrypted dump)

8.5. (Only if you're setting up 2.71). Copy ms0:\dh\260\flash1 to ms0:\dh\271\.

9. Now from the decrypted 2.60/2.71 you downloaded you will need the reboot.bin, copy the reboot.bin into ms0:\dh\260\flash0 (or ms0:\dh\271\flash0 for 2.71) and also copy it into ms0:\dh\kd and replace the one that is currently in there

10. Now use the following settings to start up 2.60/2.71:
UMD Select: (choose your iso, cso or --UMD DISC--)
UMD Mount: ISO ANYUMD
UMD Version: 2.xx > 2.00
Firmware: 2.60/2.71
CPU Clock: 222MHz / 111MHz (that is what I always use no problems)
Boot Select: Reboot XMB
Other: preload address: 0x88E00000
******REMOTE CTRL: Kprintf(115kbps) (not compulsary, unless you want to use the music remote)

When selecting a UMD Disc with the UMD Select option the other settings will be changed automatically so the UMD will run, the settings can be changed back later by pressing O when DevHook is auto-starting.

Well written and no illegal firmware dump links, very appreciated.

I'll sticky this for now to point people who have setup questions. Feel free to add anything else to the guide that would be helpful. (Screenshots, new release updates, etc.)

It appears that a new version of the DH firmware installer was put out a little while ago. Users on this forum and others are claiming that the update can extract the needed 2.6 FW files for you (all save the reboot.bin file). If this is true, I take it you can bypass the use of FakeUpdater in the above tutorial, thus making things A LOT easier and understandable. Can anyone confirm this?

Some people have reported getting a CONTENT CANNOT BE DISPLAYED error when trying to use the web browser during 2.6 emulation.

Restoring default settings in the emulated 2.6 environment solved the problem for me and hopefully should sort a few other people out as well.

Cheers!

This is the only part I don't understand.. We already have the 2.0/2.5 eboots from the previous devhook versions. Wouldn't we be looking for a 2.6 eboot instead to unpack?

If someone could please clear this up it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Look again. That's from the 2.5 guide. The 2.6 step is more to the bottom.

LOL sorry I'm too anxious and definitely jumped the gun there!

*reads properly*

Thanks.

*edits so he doesn't get flamed for double-posting*

So now I just need the so-called "decrypted 2.60 dump" from somewhere & I'm set.. Hmm..? *thinks hard*

The Firmware installer is working now (0.43_Fix) so there is no need for most of those steps. You can just download the 2.6 Update Eboot, use PSP Brew to open the EBOOT and extract the DATA.PSAR to the root of the memory stick and run the Firmware Installer.

Then you must find reboot.bin from somewhere else...and copy it into the \DH\260\

Actually, this is due to the homepage settings. Just change it to open to a blank page or something else. It will fix it. No need to reset every setting.

Do we have to "press O to copy flash1 registry files"? I pressed X to exit, and my Devhook 2.6 is just fine... But I'm wondering if that's a necessary step or something.

I followed the steps in the guide exact. Then I tried to run 2006 FIFA World Cup on my psp. 2006 FIFA World Cup requires 2.6 so I ran devhook with the 2.6 settings but it did NOT work, just a black screen then my psp turns itself of.

Check your settings again because I worte that guide while setting mine up (so I wrote exactly what I was doing). Does it even get past DevHook? What I mean is does 2.6 even start to run?

Maybe this should be altered a tiny bit? You can get a 2.60 update off of any of the newest games so it saves you a download.

Also, maybe a list of key combos for exiting DH could be added?

Good work!
