HDD case for PSP that works (updated 1st. post with video 03-17-09)
Hi!
I don't know if this is the correct place but I supposed that it was interesting cause it has been always thought the opposite.
here the POV:
It's a 160 GB HDD but only recognises 149, and has its own bat.
This is not a mod, is a fully comercial unit.
Hope you find it interesting
cheers!!
EDIT
With the last firm it's also compatible with the Hostcore
Firmupdate: SPS 1119

Show the EMPTY MEMSTICK SLOT, i think this is a FAKE! Well atleast show us from the begining with you plugging that drive in and getting it to work. anyone can hook up a drive to the usb and make it look like they're using a hdd. soory but I require more proof for it to be considered a HAck

This isn't redirecting the memory stick. This is a special harddrive that can host. Therefore, he can run usbhost on the PSP and connect to it.

He's right, he's not faking anything.
The technology has existed for years (I would provide a link to gizmodo articles on it, but I'm a newbie and they don't allow that, just search google for "PSP OTG Hard drive"). I'm guessing the reason why it never caught on is as people say. lugging a hard drive enclosure, and a spare power supply in case the enclosure's battery dies, can be a bit of a hassle. Especially if you're a highschool or college student.
The hard drive enclosures are known as OTG (On The Go) and support 2.5" drives, I believe varying models support varying sizes, but the Digimate III seems to be a popular model running about 50 dollars, sans shipping.
Askoman, could I get the model of that enclosure you're using? I'm colorblind, and the (I'm guessing) holographic sticker is fudging up my vision eight ways to sunday.

It's not so much that you are color blind, but that the thing has glyphs instead of english. "Witchain SPS" is the english bit (example)

For the most part, you are correct, blackburn. Again, using the DigiMate for the example, it runs 98se, XP, 2000, and NT.
Ah, thank you kindly, Cory, that makes so much more sense now.
Askoman, if you want to send me one to beta-test and I just cover shipping, sure!
In all seriousness, Bills take precedence over a PSP accessory

Wow the case is pretty expensive. I thought it included the hard drive as well. Well at least the ebay item you posted seems like it.

God, i'm thinking about not buying 16gb memory for my psp because it might be too much memory, but who would ever need 160gb??? What do people do with that much memory (serious question)?

yes it's a little bit expensive, but think it so,
I've plugged an old HDD from an older PC and works fine (0 euros), and I think it's the only gadget that can work so with our PSPs.
For me it's a good deal, I travel a lot because of work, and i travel with my ISOs and videos.
cheers!

I believe a better question is; what can people do with that much memory? People can have all of their favorite PSP media files with them. I remember I used to want to be able to do such a thing when I first purchased my PSP but had to settle for the rather expensive 2GB Memory Stick (the largest at the time).

You do, actually. Although I tend to just keep copies of all the ISOs I have on my drive, so I can just delete them off the PSP when I'm done playing, and still have copies for later transfer.

So what do I need?
I need a 2.5 HDD, that Digimate enclosure or the witchian one. But what sort of USB cord do I need? and what is the program you have on your PSP?
