I get it, Makes it alot more promising now
Why is it so &#*$&%^& for you people hard to understand that ALL code compiled for Sony kernel (and 3.xx only kernel mode) WILL work flawlessly in new CFW. This basically includes all homebrew except 1.50 kernel mode homebrew which ALREADY doesn't work on a Slim.
Utopia will most certainly be just like we add the 1.50 kernel to the Phat. Only apps in a specific GAMEUTOPIA folder or some crap like that will run in the Utopia kernel.
But, to those who know more about Utopia, what is better about the new kernel than the old one? What's going to force me, as a developer, to start coding for the new kernel, rather than sticking with what I already know?

I guess the same could be said for apps in general; developers could spend more time adding features rather than testing/fixing/removing existing functionality.
You don't need to use it at all. You can continue making applications for the Sony 3.xx kernel as you are now. Heck you can even make user mode applications compiled with the 1.50 age SDK.
If your app is Slim compatible, it will work on the new Utopia embedded firmwares.
That is 100% asssured.
Basically Slim users will lose nothing. Phat users will lose the 1.50 kernel.
If you are still making 1.50 kernel mode applications, its your own fault. DAX wanted to drop support for it like a year ago.
Really, people need to forget about the 1.50 kernel, it's over 3 years old and only causes trouble (like keeping the lfatfs decrypted from start using a bunch of patches just so the 1.50 kernel can access it), that exact same reason is why Miriam didn't make a kernel-addon for 3.95 GEN either.
Torch didn't say he's guessing; things are being said as if they are facts. Anyways, this is off topic and the one person I was speaking to is offline now and isn't replying so let's leave it at that and get back to Utopia discussion.
Since this thread IS after all in the speculation section, I don't think it necessary that I should prefix "I think that" or something to every post just to ensure that I am not stating facts, because I am not.Originally Posted by mathieulh
And this sort of discussion is as on-topic as it gets, since officially we know nothing about Utopia other than the fact that it is an "addon" and there will be no "true" CFW based on the Utopia kernel (as of now).
The Slim will lose nothing. That is a fact. Or axiom, or whatever.
The Phat has a *very high* probability of losing (M33's) 1.50 kernel support as mathieulh has stated above.
Just realized you were referring to our argument and not my "speculations". So yes, lets keep it on topic.Originally Posted by Torch

To keep you guys informed, I've updated the first post.
PSN (US): UXSam.
Wii Friends Code (US): 1189-1627-7539-9268.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Friends Code (US): 3694-9973-1836.
Mario Kart Wii Friends Code (PAL): 3523-2309-7092.
I'm glad that the old kernel will be gone, only problem is old homebrew work work anymore. Maybe someone could make a plugin to patch the old homebrew to run on the knew kernel.
This will be wicked i can't wait for it to be released This will be HUGE!!
Yes i have read everything that he has to say and all we can do is Hope that it will compile there smart Guys i hope it works out!
Has good potential, but c'mon! Gotta have WiFi. Considering it's a whole new thing, anything is possible (no software limitations for devs without the official SDK). WiFi... someone could make a great online game!
For which they would just use the official kernel.
[I fail @ life]
lol freeplay i saw fight club when it was released on vhs.. i was 7 but on topic: as i understand this is a new kernel.. we have established that. but other than not being a sony kernel what i the point. i mean is it really going to help run thing any better? are we saying that it is more fficient? i like efficient things ^_^
