I think I'll release a test to like 5 people I guess. I don't see why not, and plus, it'll make them happy.
I don't really see the point in releasing a test/beta though.. Like, why not just release it as a demo to everyone and get even more feedback. But whatever.

I'll name it "Pokemon (Something)". I don't really know what to put in the (Something) part yet, but I did get a good suggestion : "Pokemon Origins" since it will be the first pokemon game remade for PSP.
But "Origins" makes me think of the origins of pokemon. What do you guys think?

edit
Actually, I think I might call it "Pokemon Islands", since that's related to the twist I'm using.

A quick image I put together. I'm pretty content with it.

Thanks, and no worries. I'm taking as much time as I want haha.
I'm pretty excited though, just to see what people will think of it when I'm done, er the demo or whatever.

I do hope that no one is expecting this to be a pokemon phenomenon, where everything is bigger and better than original pokemon games. I also don't want people thinking it's going to be exactly like a pokemon game. And I obviously don't want people expecting it to be anything less.

It's very similar, as close as I can get it, but I am adding/changing the things that I've always wanted in a pokemon game. And I'm not Game freak, so of course it's going to be a bit different.

The main difference is basically an extensive story line. Mini-quests, more interactivity, expansive multiplayer, you know. The good stuff.

*TIP* Please release your game when it is whole. Do not fall into the same trap that I, and many others have fallen into. An unfinished game is like eating a cake before its finished.Eventually, we will have eaten so much of the cake, that when it is finished, there will barely be any of the cake left. SO, instead, what I would do, is follow in SOURCEs Footsteps. Let us eat the cake when you are all done, people will appreciate it more, MUCH more.
The above quote is a post by spartan on the cspsp forums and is see it makes sense and just to give the author of the game a tip...
well there be an online portion...and will you release the source with it?

You didn't read the first post did you?
It's in PGE LUA, so even if I didn't want to release the source, I have to.
And yes, the full complete game will have an online portion.
Even more info is given at the first post.
Thanks.

I have an idea for a possible feature.

How about customizable battle themes, on our end? You know, we convert a song to the appropriate file type, name it the appropriate name, and we then have our own songs for battles. It would match perfectly with this "customizing trend" you have going here.

Furthermore, I would be more than happy to test this(especially for multiplayer, have 2 other PSPs) and give you feedback. PM me if you wish.

This is a pretty good idea. I didn't think about it. It should be no problem. But for simplicity, should I just make it where you can open up the "ms0:/music" folder to select the file?

Thanks Raichan! I'm glad you like the name. I'm sure you'll enjoy the game once it's finished.

This is good. I'll make sure to let you know when I'm ready to let anyone test, the thing is though, is the multi-player will have to wait a while.
The adhoc isn't in PGE yet (hopefully as soon as i need it though)
And the infrastructure will be a while also, not because of PGE, but because of other things.

Well, my personal suggestion is to make a subfolder in the games folder for custom battle music. Perhaps something like... "ms0:/PSP/GAME/(Pokemon Folder Name)/battlebgm". I say this only because lots of people put their personal mp3s in ms0:/music, so it would be much more organized for the player to select their custom battle themes if they were in their own folder, yes?

But of course, you're the dev here, so it's all on you.

Oh ok I know what your saying, I just thought you meant something like playing their music in the battles. You mean custom battle music, not just any music.

By the way, I'm getting to the part of needing some background music and some sound effects. I kinda forgot about them. Would anyone be able to help at all with that? If not, I'm perfectly capable of creating my own music and sounds.

You've probably never heard of it, but theres a program called BYOND which lets you make and host your own online games.

The reason I'm even mentioning this is because whenever you connect to a game server, you download all of its sound effects and other resource files. And I'm 100% positive there are Pokemon games using sound effects from the official game, so there's one place to get them. I'll see if I can't find any later on. (alternatively, try something like "pokemon gb sound effects" on google)

For music, google "galbadia hotel soundtracks". That website hosts practically every OST from every video game, including the GB Pokemon games.

I was just hoping for some fan made stuff too.
Eventually, I'd like this game to not have any ripped content. But until then I'm obviously going to have to use ripped media.
Thanks for the info.

How far would you say you are into development? I mean are you still working on the overall structure of things (menus, other systems), or do you have something semi-playable just lacking anything to do?

Um, I'm pretty far into the game. I mean, I have pretty much the whole game's engine down. Menus are all done and just lacking minor things.
The main things that are keeping it from being playable is a story line and the ability to catch pokemon.

I have a story in mind, but not implemented into the game yet.
And you can "catch" wild pokemon, but if you catch over 6, it'll just disappear instead of going to the box, even though it says you caught it.

It's really not far at all from a playable demo release.

cmbeke : I don't know what chara is, I've never heard of it. But I am planning on letting people pick from a large amount of characters to choose from.

I have another question..
Should I use the Sony OSK for text input throughout the game, or a custom OSK?

In my honest opinion, you can't go wrong using Sony's OSK.

Ok, I'll use it.

Just a little update..
I'm in the process of learning the stat calculations and how the whole "Pokemon mathematics" work.
I have to make a library of all the pokemon with each one's base stats, type, growth-rate, index number, move-pool (including what they learn each level), evolution stages & levels, catch-rate, effort points & base exp, and descriptions...

Wow, that was a lot to list... but nothing compared to actually researching all that info..
Wish me luck guys, I'm guessing this is where all the other people that attempt to make a Pokemon game, quit..

don't even say the word quit...you are in a really far stage now...and i think that you will end this once and for all, and all psp fans will worship you...and remember that in your hands lingers your fate.

but afterall it is your choice and thats just my opinion, good luck and god bless you...

I'm more than positive there's indepth guides out there with exactly that kind of information. Try Serebii.net, that place should definately cover ingame stats.
