I'm very close to not kidding. Honestly I made this topic out of boredom, but now that I'm already here typing it I would like to adress the lack of new emulators out there. Sure, I know there isn't anything we can do about it really, since there are those out there hard at work at psone and n64 emulation, but there are still systems that have gone overlooked, and even some of the systems that are being emulated for psp are extremely poor in comparison to some of the other things we've managed. For example, neo geo pocket chugs, yet neo geo cd runs perfect speed. VBA, despite it's recent update, is still inexcusably slow, and rather than giving you the option to turn sound on or off, it really just gives you a choice between bleeps and no bleeps. This compared to the snes and genesis, similar systems in processing power and graphics, which are currently being emulated at near perfect speed.
So, homebrewers unite. Update the old. Give birth to the new. Update Mame, bring us a decent VBA, take a shot at Flash. I'm sure I'll see a pig fly before any of this is accomplished, but until the n64 or psone emulator comes out, there are some things that we could be doing to pass the time. Then again, I can't talk. My proudest coding moment is getting a 2d game character to face toward my mouse in a game development program.
Don't take this the wrong way, as my boredom has grown into a seemingly useless post. It's been said before, I'm just articulating it. Maybe it's time for some fresh ideas, possibly creating an emulator of a non existing system, based on the capabilities of the psp itself, maybe constructing a development environment for original 3d homebrew games. Then again, given the choice between getting to work on such an illustrious project as that, or NOT doing it, I would more than likely sit back, eat a sandwich, and tell the noobs where to shove it. Just because you CAN doesnt mean you have to. Don't ever let noobs with no coding knowledge and a lust for piracy try and make you feel like you arent doing your job. It's not a job, it's a hobby, and you guys do quite well for hobbyists.
My sig still stands though. A shiny gold doubloon to whoever catches the white whale of new psp homebrew. It'll be nailed to the mast until someone heeds the call. Until then I'm going to try and beat kingdom hearts before winter 2006.
