Before I begin I must stress that I am in no way programming / hacking able so what I am suggesting may be total garbage, however it may not.
So here goes.
Obviously with the release of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PSP homebrewers are going to have to upgrade their 1.5 PSP’s to 2.0. A couple of possible solutions are doing the rounds. They are:
1. Modify the GTA:LCS ISO file to allow running on 1.5 (*** claim to have done this but have not produced any proof thus far)
2. Write some sort of loader for 1.5 which will allow 2.0 games to be done (Hard because of encryption)
3. Code a 2.0 firmware emulator for 1.5 (Again hard because of 2.0’s encryption)
So here is where my idea comes in!
We have a method for running homebrew on 2.0 PSP’s now (via Fanjita’s EBOOT Loader); however at the moment it doesn’t run all homebrew because it requires access to Kernel mode (which at this point is impossible). So I came up with this idea, and I DO KNOW IT MOST LIKLEY WILL REQUIRE KERNEL MODE ON 2.0, but thought I would throw it into the fray!
Would it be possible to write a 1.5 firmware emulator in User-Mode to be run through Fanjita’s EBOOT Loader? This seems like a more viable solution instead of emulating 2.0 on 1.5 since the encryption is more solid on 2.0.
If such a thing was possible all we would need to do is fire up EBOOT Loader (Through the photo menu) and launch firmware version 1.5 thus allowing us to run homebrew.
I hope I have not wasted anyone’s time by reading my post but am just trying to do my bit to help the community!
