EDIT: You mean that zlib thing? I haven`t been following along I guess..
Yes they found possible ways to attack libpng because there are exploits for the version that the psp uses of libpng, about zlib I havent heard them discuss too much about that.
libpng? Like png the picture format? Reminds me of that tiff exploit, tho I`m sure its not the same
/pray
Well I'm not too sure myself, but I think they have to compile something.
I hope TO or Freeplay post any news.
If TO or freeplay have any news it will proby be posted in the morning(its night where I am) unless they live in a different timezone then it would be night but that would mean if they where in the same timezone they would post it now I don't know I just hope for the 2.70/2.71 people they find something.
they're probly asleep dreaming about open 2.7+, with a big grinn on they're smurks.....
but I hope this is something, is this 2.70 or 2.71 they're on to?
Its night where I live too so I will wait till tomorow, goodnight everyone.

TO posted like 2 hours before you posted that. This sort of stuff takes time :)

I will be here till then I can see you all screaming whyyyyy.
what I just said was all off topic sorry.
10:00 over here Cali
Right am going in to school now (its 10am am already an hour late :D lol) but its last week so we just get to go on the internet all week and one of my IT teaches is a professional in C and Cpp and am sure he can give me a few more tips if i ask him about the libpng
Update for everyone wondering what is going on.
It has been found that a possible exploit could exsist in libpng version 1.2.6 which is the version the PSP uses. I'm currently waiting on word back from a friend in Vietnam who is a professional hacker to find out if he knows excatly where I can get my hands on a proof of concept.
After a proof of concept is found then it will have to be complied for the PSP and then tested out on firmware 2.71 and 2.70 to see if the exploit exsists on both versions. Once this has been tested then it needs to be complied to allow .bin files to load and then possibly after this has been completed then and only then might Homebrew work on PSP firmware 2.71 and 2.70.
At the moment it is a waiting game to see what can come from this if anything.
screw the waiting game lets play hungry hungry hippos!
Sorry if this has been asked before (it's kinda hard to read all the 100+ pages of this thread :P)...Zitat:

...if this leads to a "workable" exploit, do you suggest all firmware versions may have it?
The browser has a lower version of libpng and zlib than the xmb. So we are going to try a browser exploit. If found, it would probably work on all psps with the sony web browser.
No, just no. "Professional hacker," please! :pZitat:

An update on the serial cable, I found the capacitors at RadioShack, all I need now is the chip. Maybe Maxim cancled my order since I put the company as
"None"?
Hey I just found out that they are thinking about teaching hacking skills in Dundee Uni (Scotland), and you can get a degree in hacking... LMFAO. Sorry this is of topic.
There is professional "anti-hackers" that work for the government to basically beef up security on government computers and prevent attacks
You know saying that, does anyone know if there is a lower version of libpng and zlib in 2.01 ->>> 2.60 firmware? Maybe some of these exploit will work in lower versions which could lead to homebrew being ran on 2.60 just like a 1.5 firmware?Zitat:

Update
I've opened a new thread in regards to zlib and libpng exploits to make it easier for people to find and post information more quickly, you can find it here:
http://forums.qj.net/psp-speculation/60426-libpng-zlib-possible-exploits-2-71-firmware.html
Hope this is alright with everyone.
What version of zlib does the PSP use?Zitat:

GameFAQs isn't going to help us. They're dumber over there than in pretty much any forum around...Zitat:

We've been through this several times now...Zitat:

Browser
libpng 1.2.6
zlib 1.2.1
XMB
libpng 1.2.8
zlib 1.2.3
Can we exploit the zlib of the browser in any way? Also why would they use the old one anyway?Zitat:
Zitat von FreePlay
Gamefaqs could help a little in searching for the concept of the exploit. There's a few good people over there, not many but a few. We don't even have to use the browser for the expoit we could use the XMB becasuse libpng 1.2.8 is vulnerable too. That page that I posted that that other guy posted says that. That exploit allows you to run unathorized (sp) programs. In other words our eboots. Hombrew from the browser sounds tough. And if it's not tough then we should leave that, crack the xmb, and then for like version 2.0 use the browser exploit. Just a thought.
If an exploit exists, you can exploit it.Zitat:
Zitat von CoBrA2168
Probably because they haven't really updated it much since 2.00 came out.Zitat:
Zitat von CoBrA2168
That was pretty stupid of them o_o Did they only update libtiff in 2.01? I know they updated libunGif in 2.6. Do we have a changelog of whats been updated?
So does anyone here know how to exploit libpng?
Just a little update on the serial cable. I'm making a PCB to make mass-production of these cables easier if a downgrader is made using it.
Here is the schematic in Eagle, I just need to do a couple more things and I'll have a compact board.

Wow that looks very good.
Ok the board is made, I just need to do some finishing touches, and it's done.

So is my cable almost ready? Be sure to test it on your psp first just to make sure it works.
Waiting on the Maxim chip.Zitat:
