Maybe 2.8 will be hacked and 2.7x wont be. That would be nice.

I was thinking the same... RSS Video might be holding the bomb that will plunge a hole in the 2.8 Firmware....Zitat:

Doubt it...cause Sony does know what they are doing...Zitat:

Don't say that!
Project Sunrise!!
I don't think so because 2.8 only has a couple new features and probly some more security 2.70-71 has more chance because ther could have been exploits in 2.60 that are still there in 2.70-71 and 2.8 would have security fixes and the new features would be looked over so much there would be a small chance they would have an exploit so unless it has 5 or more new features theyed probly have no exploits.Zitat:

We've heard that before I think...
I have been out for a while so has everyone given up on all the stuff you guys were trying? cuz I see that TO has moved to doing something else.
What is To doing now? anyway does look like the libpng idea went down the drain :(
sony have NO IDEA wat they are doing, they are trying to make homebrew HARDER? and they totally ruined videos having to be MAQs and such. yes it is a great console, but frankly, they're idiots when it comes to homebrew.
it wont matter because then 2.71 users can update to 2.8 and downgradeZitat:

Guys I am still working on the serial cable! Check out the PCB. I'm trying to find the capacitors now.

Wow nice job I hope something comes out of this serial idea.
Keep up the good work VB
If this serial mod is a success and will gain Flash0 access and will allow you to have full control over the PSP's flash chip from a computer, how will this help us? Im not up for damaging my $1,500 computer just because i had modify a cable to connect to an external device. Anyways good job!
this is in no way harmful to the pc or the psp, very low power comm system on both ends. wors case senario he burns out the serial port on one or both ends. but that would be because he soldered something wrong.
now if he is successful then the next step is to find or create a program that will take a 1.x-2.x eboot and write it to the nand chip replaceing the current installed firmware.
the only problem is we don't know enuf about the commands that the processor and nand chip respond to, so we'd have to use the serial cable and a program like psplink to watch the communication that goes on inside the psp when it's running.
but i know this will lead to something big. if not then we must explore the possibility of internal nand flashing.
So if succesful who will write the program?
And where will we get the cables?
I will probably make them and sell them.Zitat:

and what happens if you dont have a Serial Port on your computer ? like me... :Cry:Zitat:

I give up! I dont buy home made hardware.. I might aswell upgrade..Zitat:

Why not, I will get custom PCBs from Spark Fun. It would be professional quality.Zitat:

This is just a "beta" for TO.
Do any new PCs have serial ports these days?
Hey VB how is the cable coming now? ive been away form the forums the past few days so just checking up because it seems the only thing thats happening in this thread now lets hope it works.Zitat:

I found the capacitors today in RadioShack while I was getting some supplies (namely desoldering braid). The board is done, just need to get a new female serial port (the other one rusted for some reason) and solder on a PSP serial cord, and it's done.Zitat:

Click for high-res goodness.
Good Work, and good persuasion, a few seconds ago I was going to click start on the 2.80 update but then I regained hope in 2.71. Dont fry your PSP!!!Zitat:
Zitat von vb_master
Yo I have really high hopes for this, so when its done I wish you the best of luck, for you and your psp.
I`ve got high hopes for this too. But I`m confused. You need a serial port on your PC for this to work? All this time I figured it would be PC->USB to PSP->Serial
No. Not that i've seen.Zitat:
Zitat von jeffy777
They should, yes.Zitat:
Zitat von jeffy777
Only those legacy free mini thingies do not.
Anyway, a nice USB<=>RS232 dongle will work perfectly as well :)
as far as the serial ports go, it depends on the computer. most desktops should have them, while 99% of laptops don't. anywho, didn't someone already try the serial idea and all they could do was emulate the remote?
Edit: here's the same schematic: http://nil.rpc1.org/psp/files/PSP%20...0Converter.pdf
and from http://nil.rpc1.org/psp/remote.html
So how exactly are you planning on using this to flash the psp, as far as the software aspect goes?Zitat:
- Rumoured additional capabilities of the Remote Port like re-flash (this is very doubtful, but who knows...)
...Of course, at the moment, the only use we have for this serial port is to emulate the PSP remote, but this is likely to change in the future

Quite a few mobo's dont have a serial port, including mine...
and no, it isnt crap, its a DFI SLi-DR, THE Best NF4 overclocking mobo.
Not worried about that, BestBuy will "fix" it by giving me a new one. :ROFL:Zitat:
Zitat von ][+][ a c K 3 r
if it's anything like the asus mobo's, it prolly has a serial header. That's what mine has, it came with a little serial port that goes in the pci slot and has a ribbon cable that runs down and plugs onto the mobo. or you could always get one of these:
http://www.hcditrading.com/Shop/Cont...d/0/rid/122488
but anyways, what are we planning from a software standpoint for the serial dongle?
If TeamOverload still exists, it's going to him.Zitat:
Zitat von n8thegr8
Yeah I hope he can make magic and come up with a software that helps.
I'd say the best thing would be to just send random hex codes, see what happens.Zitat:

So wheres is TO? I havent seen a post from him.
i don't know where TO is.
He's here, back from a ban. Just doesn't post that much anymore on the psp forum.
if you use xflash you can hide data in theflash using certain methods, it has been proven for example, that if you put the "X-FLASH" pic into the about psp screens, and then upgrade to 2.80, it will stay there, i believe it is possable to make an exploit out off this using elements from dark alex's custom fw and boosters 2.71 homebrew launching capability, maby find a way to make it self extract to the needed places after the update has finished, or via key press
but ofcorse this would only be usefull to TA-82 users who are on 2.50 or 2.60 that cant downgrade but want to have the latest features and homebrew
