I don't know why SERVER 2003, maybe because the whole of the Sonys Intranet is made up with DELL POWER EDGE SERVERS running Windows Server 2003!

There are is a whole load more under the Hood of any SERVER version of Windows.

Can you boot Windows XP PRO over a network using another of Windows XP Pro .... no! Can you do so with Windows Server 2003... YES..

ICT/IP, DNS, IIS, ASP, ASP+ and DCHP and WINS are stronger with any SERVER addition of a OS.

I doubt there is an exploit to run an EBOOT loader through either a game or an XMB in 2.71. 2.7 may have one though. But we should concentrate on flashing through the serial or another form of flashing which will lead to custom fw for all.

PTPSP, Whats going on is we figured that the serial port could help us somehow. So if we can use the software that the up modchip uses, than we could flash any firmware to the psp. But we would need a certain cable. Read the first post, its got more info.

You still haven't explained yet....WHY Win2k3?
You state it booting other operating systems...we all know what that is...it's simple virtualization. Microsoft is decent at it, but they aren't the best at it.
And in XP Pro at work I can boot into Linux or another operating system using...Virtual PC. And I can boot that image over the network.
Guess what?
USAREUR runs on Dell Power Edge servers as well...that doesn't mean we issue every single client laptop or workstation with Win2K3 on it.
You still haven't answered the questions...the second someone calls you out on something you fly off the handle and rant and rave.

More to the point I was only saying was OS was being used, I never said it couldn't be used on any other OS...

Chirst who knows it might run on Windows 1 (Released in 1986).

Fremchb0yenius : I think it would be better if there was a solding version of this first, where all the cables connected to the NAND are, and then you the flasher that way, to see if it acturally works. But hey, what do i know, i'm a n00b ;)

Not if it's a WIN32 app like you said it was.
You don't know much about computers, do you?
And a WIN32 app can easily be run on Linux or OS X via virtualization.
Especially if all it does is reflash/reprogram a PSP.

Ok guys, let's clear some stuff up. One, you WON'T use a server OS for something like this. Stop flaming iBall. He knows his stuff.

Second, this guy IS a liar. If you guys were reading any of my posts, or even jedimasteryoda's, you would know that you can't flash directly from the serial port to the NAND flash memory. And you can't flash directly from the memory stick either. How do I know this? Because flash memory, unlike EEPROM, must be written to in chunks (aka "cells"). You can't have a steady stream of information going to it. We already covered this pages back. Proof.

And another thing I want to mention is, masterjediyoda isn't working on a flasher utility just yet. He has experience with serial port flashing though. Hopefully I will be able to work with him to get an open source serial utility working for the PSP.

We don't just "flash" things from the memory stick. When you do anything to the flash memory, whatever you are flashing is loaded into RAM. Like I said, MJY and I discussed this like ten pages back. In order to flash, we must load some sort of utility into RAM that will do the flashing.

And, as iBall has said before, madmatty has yet to say a single thing we already don't know. And we have discreditted him enough times to tell he is lieing.

N00b question, whats the difference between a normal firmware, and a moddedfirmware??? I have never used a modchip because I have never bricked my psp.

Ok, I will admit that I don't know as much as you. But how old are you? Mid-20's, probably got some sort of university degree and certainly a career in the computing industry. Me, I am 14 and I am still learning, sorry if I made a mistake in my sentence structure. And I can tell you what to do, I just did. Not that it worked. I will admit that you have helped me on a number of occasions, but there is no need to be horrible. What if he is a Sony employee, it doesn't mean he know the whole company inside out, but he knows a hell of a lot more than you do.

Can someone answer to this qustion? If we compare a modded firmware (with modchip for example) would that be any useful? (I think modchip changes the firmware, or doesn't it?) Correct me if I'm wrong...

ANYWAYS, guys, this thread is about flashing the PSP through the serial port, not ask matt 101 questions about what he did and if he can give you custom firmware. Please stay on topic. I'd hate for this to get closed.

I have never seen madmatty answer the question if there is a possibility to give us the custom fw, or did i miss something??
