Flasher For PSP

I'm not so sure that the modded firmware is real. From what I understand, .prx files MUST be encrypted to be run. That's why we don't have custom firmwares yet. But, even (in theory) if all you have on your PSP is a single .prx file that is not encrypted, the system won't run it. So if that theory is true, the encryption checks must be comewhere else in the hardware. If THAT is true, then even the modchip can't have custom firmware.

Also, something some people need to understand is that the UP chip isn't just an extra flash module. It has hardware built in that allows the chip to write to it's own flash in chunks. Sorta like a mini RAM set.

If he gives us information with HARD evidence, then we'll believe it. The rest of us have to provide proof, so he should too. Now, does anyone have a SOCOM headset? I need to know something.

Actually, I have flash-programmed Actelis modems on a Linux box using VMWare running a virtualized Windows XP Pro session.
Right through the serial port.
Worked like a charm.

I've got a SOCOM headset and a homemade headset.
Homemade is better since it allows me to use ANY regular non-USB PC headset.

VMWare is pretty sw33t. My dad has a VMWare PC sitting beside his normal Windows Media Center one.

You can use only the headphones but to use the microphone, you need some sort of adapter I think...

You need the Remote from sony to get the mic to work in SOCOM

There's no chip in the Sony headphones at all.
It's just a regular 3.5mm plug with 4 connectors (GND, LFT, RGT, MIC).
Somewhere there's that how-to thread I posted on it...and there are already a couple of folks out there who have dissected the actual remote itself to find that there's nothing really there we can use in this case.

The reason I'm asking about the SOCOM headset is because the Sony Remote communicates initially with the PSP before any buttons are pressed. It sends four bytes to it, which are probably unique because it is idetifying itself as the remote. Link.

So what I'm thinking is maybe the theoried "flasher" sends it's own four bytes.
