Okay first and foremost a warning to everyone out there using the Naki or DragonPlus Analog Armor Kits (the oversized analog sticks), DO NOT TWIST THEM!!!
As soon as I put mine on I noticed the stick had a little bit of a twist to it. After playing for awhile it became more worn and ended up dislocating the analog guides underneath, causing the analog stick to lock up. This is when I took things into my own hands... I opened up my six month old PSP, took apart the analog stick internal unit, and reset the guides. I made note of the part which had become worn and needed to be replaced (and ordered another one from this site: http://www.gamestech.com/PSP_Info/PS...cement/asr.htm) Well with that being said I went on a quest to find a new analog stick replacement that would have less "twist" during gameplay. I ended up purchasing one of those rubber nubs for laptops which have a little analog nub to move the cursor! It works great! (practically pinpoint accuracy!) and I don't have to worry about it twisting the guides underneath and locking up again, or breaking the replacement part! These nubs are inexpensive and can be found just about any computer store or online. I bought mine off e-bay for 4.95 (for two of them) plus $1 for s/h which was just a standard size envelope. (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Dell-Rubber-...QQcmdZViewItem) NEW AUCTION!! The best thing about it is you don't have to worry about your PSP not fitting into your case anymore cause it's just about as small as the standard PSP analog "pad". All in all I thought this was a great purchase and figured I should just share the knowledge out there in case anyone else was having problems with their analog sticks! |

umm.. just imagine one of those little rubber nubs squeezed over the analog stick nub (if you don't know what this is, remove the analog "pad" by putting your fingernail underneath and lift gently, it will pop off easily). For those of you with no imagination:

yeah I have to admit it looks kinda funny on there but it works great!! the nub has rubber "fuzz" on it which seems to fit right into my fingerprint. It has great control and the analog doesn't slip anymore during gameplay. I am on the lookout for a black one though (or other colors, I've seen a red one for the IBM) you can color coordinate if you get the aftermarket faceplates (asterix etc) like I did:
http://cgi.ebay.com/IBM-ThinkPad-Tra...QQcmdZViewItem lol or you can buy this guy's overpriced one "retails at over $25"~!!!! : http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-IBM-ThinkPad...QQcmdZViewItem and here's a good picture of the "fuzz": Last edited by califrag; 12-22-2005 at 01:44 AM.. |

Hey, I like the idea.
So you can simply pull off the default PSP Analog stick top and slide one of these on instead? All fits well or did you require some type of glue to hold it in place? I'm Lovin' It! Mike |

I've got an old IBM Thinkpad laptop lying around... time to take the trackpoint cap off of it and try it on the PSP.
And by the way, happy birthday Ha!Ijustfoundmygenesis!!

the picture on trackcap.com show a square where the psp would attach but on the regular nubs its a rectangle. does this make any difference at all? does the cap fit snugly or does it sort of wobble around? and how secure is it to the psp, is it likely to fall of?

RUBBER STRETCHES!!! AMAZING!!! I didn't use any glue to attach it, the rubber hole in the back just stretched over the nub (easily)
The blue one which I'm using is the Dell version and it fits snugly! It's no looser than the stock analog pad or the aftermarket oversized analog sticks from naki or dragonplus (in fact, it's a little more snug than them!) Some of the trackpoint caps have square holes on the back, some have rectangular, and some have round holes. The dell one is square, but it fit right over the analog stick nub. The only way it's likely to fall off is if you pull it off. I've had hours of gameplay since I got these and no wobble or falling off. The only thing I can suggest is spend the $6 and try it for yourself. If worse comes to worse you're only out some pocket change. I love having mine and just ordered some for the IBM thinkpad series. Makarman, if you've tried the trackpoint cap from your thinkpad on your psp yet, let us know how you like it and how it fits, mine are still on their way in the mail. I've only tested the Dell version so far, but it works great! I'm looking forward to getting my IBM ones. I have to agree with you though Kenta, the Toshiba ones look like the rubber might be too slippery, but the Dell (and IBM) version with the "Cat's tongue" texture does not slip at all! I found some black ones to match the stock psp case: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=51155 they are the compaq brand. (i bought two lol) so now I have two blue ones, two red ones, and two black ones.. in case I lose them (they are tinY) lol |

you don't have to open your psp to put the tracking cap on it.. (are you talking about the speaker mod in the other post?) I would have taken the tracking cap from one of the thinkpads at my old job before I quit if I thought of this back then! (then again I didn't have my psp when I was at that job)

dude I have no idea what you're talking about... if your analog stick IS NOT BROKE, then you DO NOT HAVE TO OPEN YOUR PSP. All you do, is pull the little plastic analog pad off the TOP (FRONT/OUTSIDE) of your PSP. Dude.. just stick your finger nail underneath it and pry up, it is MEANT to come off. You don't have to "break it off" and removing it is easy (it sticks right back on if you remove it).. If you still don't understand this, than you should just not worry about it anymore... :smh:

There are 2 main kinds of trackpad caps; Dell and IBM. The IBM style has a slightly larger opening and I have not tested it on my PSP.
I have the Dell kind, and it fits just great. You can order gray ones from www.trackcap.com and it looks nice on the PSP. I definitely noticed an improvement in accurracy and feel with this, I will never go back to the standard analog pad again. Here's a couple pics of the Dell cap I ordered
