I agree. These people can't even be bothered to read a simple article. Oh, and god forbid you have to click on a link, they can't be bothered to do that. Lets get ready for 10 more "I took off the bottom screw, but it won't open!" posts.Originally Posted by califrag

Only remove the screws pointed to by red arrows.
um excuse me but I was the one who started this thread to "mod" the speaker holes in the front of the faceplate. I don't see you WITH* any mod's, homebrews or hacks. In fact, you were asking for pics of how to do this mod on the fifth page of this post so you are obviously a noob when it comes to your psp if you can't understand a simple modification like this. By the way, just because you put homebrew on your PSP does not mean YOU hacked your PSP so don't act like you're some big pspdev or something. I have no interest in writing homebrew, i'll admit I'm no good at programming, or hardware hacking my psp, because I know I'll screw something up. So why don't you save your flaming for your boyfriend - he enjoys ****heads.Originally Posted by gamer4life
how do i get the analog stick off? i took off the two screws but i cant get it to come off
Chase, don't forget to remove the analog pad from the front of the psp (it's the little black disk that sticks onto the analog nub)
oh i got around it, so i didnt have to remove it, but thanks anyway
does this actually increase the volume alot or just a little don't wanna open up my PSP again
gamer4life i don't think it would be a good idea for you to try to do this mod.
just fyi for everyone else, I got my asterix faceplate and it had the tabs too, (but I cut them away haha) :)
I have my original faceplate, just opened it for cleaning
The lik-sang faceplate I just got for christmas rox!I did this mod without taking off my PSP faceplate, and When I took it off to replace it with the new one I found out that it came off WITH the faceplate! I figured those little tabs were part of the internal, NOPE they are parts of the faceplate themselves
alright so i wrote this up for someone who PMed me but here goes for everyone else... a one-stop how-to:
Okay well I don't really recommend doing this unless you have another reason for opening your psp.. for example I had to fix my analog stick and had also bought a new color faceplate so I decided to do this while I had it open. If you don't have any other reason for opening your psp, and it's still under warranty, i wouldn't do this until the warranty was expired. if you still want to do it here's how:
Ok all you need is the foam stuff, an x-acto knife, a screwdriver (phillips size #001), some scissors, and some glue.
First put your psp face down on a clean, lint-free cloth (like the cleaning cloth that came with the PSP).
Remove the battery cover and battery. You will see three exposed screws (one black one and two silver ones - the silver ones DO NOT need to be removed and are pointed to by green arrows in the below picture.)
Now to begin removing the screws.
1) black screw located under the battery (exposed).
2) silver screw located on the bottom of the psp (exposed).
3) black screw located beneath the "L" button (in hole).
4) black screw located next to the handstrap (in hole).
5) BLACK SCREW LOCATED UNDER BOTTOM LEFT HAND SIDE OF WARRANTY STICKER
***PLEASE NOTE: REMOVING THE LAST SCREW (#5) WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY***
Once the last screw is removed, the faceplate can be removed easily from the psp (just lift the psp, and the faceplate should stay on the cloth, if not, just pull it off gently)
Cutting the holes
You will see two little pieces of plastic where the "speakers" are on the back of the faceplate. These cover the holes which you see from the front. Stick the tip of the x-acto knife under the tab and begin cutting the plastic away. You may need to remove the analog stick unit in order to get to the one under it.
You can look from the front of the faceplate to see exactly what you are removing and where the x-acto knife is cutting. Once you've cut the plastic so the holes are smooth (BE CAREFUL NOT TO CUT TOO MUCH!!) you can cut a couple little squares of foam and glue them over the holes you just cut. I made sure to cut them so there was no plastic sticking up, and it was flush with the back of the faceplate, however it does not make a big difference.
Once the foam is glued on, let it dry overnight or at least a few hours and then put the faceplate back on the psp.
THIS IS THE HARDEST PART!!!
The hardest part about putting the faceplate back on is getting it back on without any dust, hair or fingerprints on the screen. It's NEARLY impossible!! I would recommend doing this in a clean environment like an office building or something where the air is purified and there isn't much dust.
Basically reassembly is the same as disassembly, you just put the faceplate back on the psp and put all five screws back in. Voila instant noise gratification. Some people say they notice a difference, some say they notice no change, personally I noticed a difference. Let me know if you end up doing this and what your results are. HTH.
HOLD ON A SECOND.....you have a dremel and not an exacto knife.....dremel = atleast $50 and exacto knife = $1.....if you don't have one i recomend getting one even if you don't want to do this simple little mod.......there handy for tons of stuff....lol no exacto knife but a dremelOriginally Posted by Ten In 2010
Nicely done there buddy
~EDIT TO THE TUT ABOVE~ if you hade not removed the warrenty sticker before and this is your first time opening up your psp try removing it VERY carefully as to not damage it then once mod is complete try using the glue to glue it properly back inplace not sure if it will help warrenty or not but it may so yeah...

scremo & everyone else:
The glue on the back of the sticker has the word "void" imprinted into it in about size 8 arial font over and over and over again, and as soon as you start messing with the sticker (taking it off and putting it back and taking it off) the glue gets messed up and the words smear around. The sticker also creases very easily and trying to pull it off without creasing it is nearly impossible... this is how they can tell if you've voided your warranty or not...
I noticed a big difference
Warning though, when you go from zero volume tabs to one volume tabsm Its a MUCH larger jump
No more quiet music
why do you supose they where in the bottom in te first place?
Doing this only makes your psp maby two or three bars louder and i really dont think its worth it to void your warranty for this if you already have voided your warranty you go ahead and give it a try but if you havent voided your warranty ITS NOT WORTH IT!!! Trust me this is how i voided mine.
(someone should make and sell those little warranty stickers that cover up the last screw cuz if they sold them for like $1 each that person could make alot of $$$)
he sayd no to do it inless ur ganna open it anyways, i might do this but in need som thing that would look good with a silver face plate.
wow this sounds great,i night just do this soon
i did it, its not any louder... dont waste your warranty for this.
btw, i opened my psp before, so i didnt have a warranty sticker anymore.
if its not that would then i won't do it, if anyone wants their mp3's louder get mp3gain and djsp
cool i need to try this
This sh*t is retarded.

I opened my PSP many times(faceplate and LCD replacement)so i don't think it's gonna be a problem
I tried this and completely removed them, made absolutely no differnce, man I think you are overreacting. Play a song and cover the holes with your fingers, you wont notice a difference.
...I noticed a small improvement in sound but I think that it helps the quality of the sound more than it helps the quantity...but yeah if there was some way to do the same thing to the bottom holes it should reallly sound loud
