I use Photoshop 7.0. I do a lot of doodling in Photoshop with my tablet. Something I couldn't do in MS paint.

well from seeing all of the images of 3.02 oe-b with the camera and rss icons in tact as well as a few others that were missing, can anyone post the mac os xmb icon set with all of the icons, or most of them? i've seen more icons compared to the 2.50 topmenu_plugin.rco file. that would be appreciated!!

i did and it was the same one as i first downloaded with as much as the 2.50 topmenu rco file could handle. i was asking for more icons like the camera or rss feed icons like i have seen. not custom icons, but still included on the xmb when on the psp.

I'm not sure where you saw that but you cannot get the RSS icons and Camera icons in place unless you are using OLD EXISTING icons in their place.
Since we are using a decrypted 2.50 topmenu plugin all icons after 2.50 don't exist on the PSP.

in the image in the first post, anibus has custom game, photo etc icons, and a usb icon for camera. i want to see camera as being visible. i also saw another image posted here with an rss channel icon. i tried hex-editing the .rco file i have by copying text from another rco that i have that has the icons as being visible. no luck tho..

Download the icon package I put together.

It has the newest icon hacks by kgsws which will include the fixes such as RSS and adding the USB Icon for the Camera.

You can only change the main XMB icons.

I don't know if they are still working on the other icons. I haven't seen them post in a while.

Well it works in that sense, but the background isn't transparent.



The Webcam has the white background not be transparent.


Please help I got the others to work I don't know why it doesn't show transparent for this one

everytime i do this it doesnt use my custom icons

im using 3.02 oe-b, im using my topmenu_plugin.rco from my flash0\, an dim using filer to flash it

when i flash it still has the original xmb icons

what am i doing wrong?

xmb-icons-250.rar -- can only be used to make the topmenu_plugin.rco for any firmware above 2.00 (which includes custom firmware)

xmb-icons-150.rar -- can only be used to make the topmenu_plugin.rco for 1.50 (no network icon)

xmb-icons-302fix.rar -- can only be used to make the topmenu_plugin.rco for any firmware above 2.00
Missing Icons are replaced with existing icons. (Camera has USB Icon, Online Manual has Web browser icon etc...)

Extract the one you are going to use and you should be ok

OK first lets make your Icons!

Icon Specifications 64x64 pixels 8 bit color or 256 colors (same thing) BMP Format Transparency is defined by first color in palette order

NOTE: In order to change your transparency color your BMP must be in 8-bit indexed color mode!

Ok lets say you want to have black in your icons.

Of course with the BMPs provided and/or you use MS Paint, Black will just be transparent.

So how do we change this?

Well its simple (If you have photoshop)

In this example I will change the transparency color from Black to Green.

Open up your BMP in photoshop.

Go to Image --> Mode --> Color Table

You should get this window.

Now from that table choose the color you wish to be the transparency color.
(Try to use a color that you're not going to be using in your icon)

In this case I want green to be transparent. So I look for an exisiting green color.

Double click on the color and copy the hex code for the color.

Now go to the first color in the palette. (its usually black)

Replace the hex value of the color with the hex value of the color you wanted to be transparent.

Once you do that the color will change.

Now you have just set the color green as your transparency.

But now we have a problem we have two greens in our color table.

We can't leave it like that otherwise the transparency won't work.

So replace the other green that is not the first color in the palette and change it to black.

Now your Color table should look something like this.

Just hit OK.

Once you do this however you color values will switch (black will be green and vice-versa)

Just manually change the colors back and you should be ok.

Then make sure you save the BMP.

After you do this change YOU WILL BE ABLE TO EDIT THE IMAGE IN MS PAINT WITHOUT THE TRANSPARENCY COLOR BEING CHANGED

Now for those of you who can't afford Photoshop you can use the FREE Image editor called The Gimp

Once you have downloaded and installed The Gimp, use it to open up your BMP

In the Window containing your image, go to Dialogs --> Color Map

This window should pop up

This is where we are going to be changing our transparency color.

Select a color that you wish to be transparent. Try to use a color that you will not be using in your icon.
(Usually at the bottom of the colormap there are some default colors that are probably not used in your image. Use one of those)

Now select a color from the Colormap that is closest to the color you wish to be transparent. In this instance I'm going to be change my transparency color to green.

Now copy the html notation given to you in the box.

Once you copy the html hex number, change the color to black [000000]

Now select the first color in the Colormap (usually black)

Now copy the html notation of your chosen color into HTML notation text box and then hit enter.

The first color in the colormap should now change to the color you selected.

NOTE The PSP only shows about 60x64 out of the icon. You still need to have 64x64. So leave about 4 pxls of border otherwise it will get cut off.

They also have to numbered in the order that they are in the XMB

So you know your going to be using MS Paint. Probably been a while since you opened it...

1. Now that you've made your icons, its time to make your topmenu_plugin.rco
   
   
2. Copy your newly created icons to wherever you extracted your xmb icon maker package.

3. Once you do that all you have to do is double-click the start.cmd program and a command console should pop up.
   
   Let it do its thing and once is says konecu scriptu... just hit any button to close the window.

   You should have a newly created topmenu_plugin.rco in the same folders as the bmps just waiting to be flashed.
   
   
   
4. Use the latest version of pspfiler to perform the flashing of topmenu_plugin.rco
   
   you have to flash it to flash0:/vsh/resource
   
   once you successfully flashed your file, exit and enjoy your new XMB!
   

Known Problems [1.50 only] Shadows do not match the icons. This is something else that has to be edited. Shadows/Glows are gone. Removed in the xmb-icon-250 maker and xmb-icon-302fix maker. Icons are in the incorrect place in the higher firmwares. Still being worked on we are using a 2.50 topmenu_plugin.rco as our base. So any icon added since 2.50 will appear blank. So kgsws had to use existing ones. They do function however. Why not use the 2.6 topmenu_plugin.rco? We cannot change the XMB text in the 2.60 topmenu_plugin.rco Poor Colors Hey what do you expect from only 8 bits?

I've done everything you said in the tutorial and still all i get is either the regular xmb for 3.02oeb or I get the kgsws:). not my custom ones, some of the pics others might find offensive, say my explosion middle finger icon that I made from a larger pic.

Also do all the other icons still show up as they regularly do or do they disappear I think I am not understanding it correctly when people mention that some icons don't show up. :unsure:

ok well your icons seem not be in an acceptable format for the converter.

They should all be 5.05 kb.

You may have to resort to using the Windows color palette. You can still change the transparency color but overall it might not look so good.

All the icons appear normally. Its just that newer icons such as the Camera, Online Manual, Remote Play, and Certificate Utility icons are missing.

They are however replaced with existing icons. Such as the USB Icon for the Camera.

what color is the most suitable transperacy for icon?

it differs from icon to icon.

The best color is usually one that is not used in your icon.

I was suggesting the windows palette because for some reason when I try using optimized palettes for certain icons, the converter refuses to make the topmenu_plugin.rco

But using the WIndows palette, my icons always work.

So that is my two cents.

When when you go to Image --> Mode and change the color mode from RGB to Indexed you get a new window asking what palette you want to use.

If your BMP is already Indexed, select RGB and the re-select Indexed to get the Indexed dialog window.

From the drop down list select the Windows Palette.

you can do an exact palette which will try to get exact colors, but as I said before the converter may or may not accept the icon.

If you have to use the Windows palette, set the diffusion to 100 so it won't look so tie-dyed.

Then you just follow my little how-to in the first post to change transparency.

It's just saying it can't find the file. If your running it straight out of the RAR folder keep it open. Try extracting it to a folder of its own on the desktop and try again.

yes i know that it can't finde the file!
but I don't know why, I only get this error when i use my selfmade icons.
And it is in a folder on the desktop.
If I use the sample pics it works normal.

no hes probably running it from the folder, i did it aswell, ive tried 2 different programs and it still wont work, cause it cant find the file! :down:

maybe difference between the .cmd version and the .exe...

Yeah, same here.

It would help a lot if the program was in English, btw.

if you're getting the "file not found error" that means that the program did not covert your icons correctly.

Even though your icons may be the right size and bit depth, the icon converter seems to be incredibly picky about what colors the icons are supposed to have.

You will have to use the Windows color palette. That is the only thing I have gotten 100% success rate. I explained how to change it one page back.

So there...

Well I guess if the "2. ikona je moc velka" (number may vary, I had 1 but then suddenly it became 2) error means file not found, well then I guess I have to use the Windows palette. Bleh.
