[GUIDE] Change your XMB Icons

Changed the 2 sub-icons from Rss, they looks not so nice with the topmenu creator so hexed the ftr.dat and changed already the 2 sub-icons. Looks preaty nice i find so if you like it i will upload the ftr.dat. Grtzz

i tried the photo_plug, i can see weire icon after icon-coder/mig2bmp, maybe icon size issue..

ok i have tried a few thing to find more icons but have had no luck so i think i leave it up to the pros.

maybe someone notices too, if we open an converted topmenu, we can see the size and offset of the icons. the icon offset starts from "c20c"

we knew those pointers even before we found out the icon format and if your sizes where right than the size of the 1st icon would be almost the same data as the seconds start pointer

Tried with out.psp as well. Same error. Some insight for a hex noob pls :)

you copy too much data from the ftr.dat. if you can not get the idea from my pic, i can do nothing.

Figured it out. I was using bmp2mig instead of vice versa. Silly me =P

Hexing scares me, it all looks like gibberish mumbo jumbo to me. Is anyone running a tutorial on hexing ?

This is a very easy mod.

Like I didn't real this guide or I didn't even know you guys made one. I read how to do it from "The Read Me". Man you should read it sometime it helps:tup:

I know that these are the pointers for a while but I don't see how 5817 which is the second icon in the pointers but the icon is at cb4 when you remove everything before c20d

He's actually not very far off at all, instead of the size and offset appearing every 112 bytes as he has in his screen shot, they just occur at every 56 bytes (half of 112). So if you look 56 bytes from the first highlighted hex values (at address 0120) at address 0158, you will see the offset you are expecting.

I've actually used this and found that the size and offset for all the icons are listed all in a row as would be expected. What needs to figured out now is what any of the info that appears between a pair of sizes and offsets means. Nevertheless good work on the find there matchung!

yep thats right I was looking through it an yes it is 56 bytes apart
and if you set you hex editor to 8 byte lines instead of 16 they fit perfectly
and since it has the first byte after the second it is little indian

I'm having trouble making two sub icons. Whenever I make it the icon is at the bottom right. I tried to put it at the top left so it would end up in the middle but then there was a black patch at the top. Can somebody help me please?

Excellent ! Finally I can change ALL my sub icons !

EDIT: Why are there 58 instances of 78DA in the 1.50 topmenu and only 50 in the fixed 2.50 topmenu ???

No one said it couldn't be done.

its just that the shadows and glows don't dynamically fit new icons so it would still have the shape of the old icons for shadows and glows.

zmathue just removed them.

I suggest disabling the glows and shadows for ALL icons. Make it seem cleaner.

Yeah I noticed that as well but in the 1.50 topmenu. When I compiled it into a bmp it was just white space with a shadowy greyish white blur in the background. I disregarded it because I thought it was rubbish :ROFL: .

I flashed a premade .rco XMB icon set with X-Flash to my 3.03 OE-B PSP.

Everything worked except now I have a extra Network Icon under my Game sharing icon.How do I remove this?

Srry buth dont now the name of the font. Buth i upload font, background & topmenu + icons ;-). Yhere also a cople changes from that screenshot, so the camera icon is now a real little psp camera, remote control changed, and the ? icon also and rss settings and rss changed. Grtzz
