I've downloaded Metal Slug 1 and 2, the website says its for the Neo-Geo system. I've downloaded NgPSP and neo-geo cd emulators but both of the don't read the roms. The file extensions are .ROM . Am I using the wrong emulator ? because these were the only neo-geo emulators I could find.

You are right, altho you probably got metal slug for the AES/MVS which is a cart system, as opposed to Metal Slug 1 and 2 for the Neogeo CD. The Neocd files will be an iso (data) and mp3 sound files.

For the neogeo pocket you are on the right track, I believe the file extention is .npc
