Default Front Mission Problems...Gimme Freedom!

I still haven't gotten Front Mission to work. I've tried several different versions (most recently [T+Eng1.0b_FH][a4]) and I always run into the same problem: on the mission after "Hell's Wall" when I'm supposed to move into the town of Freedom, the Major appears and starts talking but it's gibberish characters. The mission won't go forward.

I'm using y's ver. 32 (and was using 28). I've tried a number of different setting - with transparancy/without, all that. Nothing seems to do the trick. Anybody else have that problem, or NOT have that problem? What are you using? What are your settings?

Front Mission 3 was great. Offtopic.

How far in is this mission? I'll try it out.

It's like the eighth mission, I think. Here's my memory of the missions up to that point:

1) warehouse/intro mission
2) Parachute behind enemy lines
3) Cargo plane crash/save journalist
4) Save Karen from the hospital
5) Guard the convoy
6) Destroy the missle launchers
7) Hell's Wall
8) Freedom...crash

I think I've played these missions like four or five times, trying different ROMs and emus.

What platform was Front Mission 3? This is my first exposure to Front Mission, and I think it's great. I never realized that I enjoyed strategy games like this - the only ones I remember playing were some PS2 ones (Ring of Red and some shogun sim) and I never really enjoyed them, but I'm just lovin' Front Mission. I'm willing to switch to TYL or whatever will work, but I must have this game!

Try SnesTYL 0.2c, and it seems like it works on the new eBoot loader if that's what you're using.

FM4 sucked, way too linear. FM3 was Front Mission + Final Fantasy 7(story wise).

FF7 wasn't linear at all. What I meant by linear was because there were no twists. They had 1 problem and that was the whole game.

Delete Link if its illegal. It explains the crash and provides a patch for the rom.

A patch shouldn't be bad.

Weese: thanks a lot. I haven't tried that patch yet, but it seems like the site's explanation is exactly what I'm encountering, and I've applied the patch. Unfortunately all the save-files are corrupted as well, so I'll now have to complete missions 1-7 for the umpteenth time, but at least this time I know that the problem is a known one (that I'm not crazy) and that the patch I've applied is likely to have solved the problem.

why dont you say no plot twists instead of linear cause linear means following the story not being able to stray clear of the normal story and do what ever you want like in X-2

PS No joy patching my old ROM with the above translation fix - wouldn't run at all. But patching the original japanese ROM with the translation and then the translation fix seems to run so far. Will report back with word on whether Freedom is playable or not.

Joy. ROM works, Freedom mission works.

I think if I'd had to play missions 1-7 for naught again I'd have gone mad. Thanks to all who helped me figure this out.
