What you think of SaGa Frontier for PS1?
I love this site!!! Always something invigorating to discuss!!!
Anyway, let me start by saying that I simply just don't like Final Fantasy. It's a bit too stereotypical. If the story line is what supposed to make it most interesting then count me out, there's always something in their that practically expected. But I won't say it's a horrible game though. I sat and played through VII, VIII, and watched a decent chunk of X(I also played a bit of I), but they never were anything awe inspiring. What really gets me going is either Pokemon or my absolute favorite. . .Dragon Warrior!!!! It outsells Final Fantasy by a long shot in Japan. This game is very innoative and the story lines. . . just plain magnificant!!!! The game really works your imagination, but unfortunately eversince Enix bought Square(Yes, that's actually what happened, it wasn't the other way around as most, including me, had expected), Dragon Warrior seems to be dissapearing. But VIII is comin' out so I shouldn't too worried.
Best RPG's
1)Dragon Warrior
2)Pokemon
3)Chrono Cross
4)Chrono Trigger
5)Final Fantasy(because it's so popular)
I think SaGa Frontier is a brilliant game, but definitely not for everyone. It definitely has a learning curve and it throws some people off. Also the graphics are straight archaic in some places, but the gameplay outweighs the negatives.Zitat:

SaGa Frontier is the main reason why i would like to see PSX emulation ported to the PSP....the game cant be that large either...no CG..very basic graphical design...i cant see something like this running extremely slow...Zitat:

Well like many, FF7 got me into rpgs. If it wasn't for that game, I wouldn't even be here playing FF6 on my psp. For those that are new to rpgs, I think FF7 would be the game that would get the new generation amped up for other role playing games.
However, I've noticed that quite a few rpg veterans don't really care much for it, which is expected and understandable. I feel the same way about the new rpgs that some younger gamers say are the best rpgs they've ever played. [Ex. Star Ocean 3, Disgaea, Final Fantasy X, etc.]
Each generation have their different point of view on things. What you'll think of past and future games all depend on your overall gaming experience.
If I play an old game and later play a sequel to that same game, chances are I won't be very impressed with the sequel. Mostly because I expected too much out of it instead of accepting it's differences (or similarities) from the previous game. That's pretty much how I felt about Xenosaga. I played Xenogears first, and I must admit that I really didn't like Xenosaga. I made the mistake of comparing the two and expecting great things from the sequel (or Prequel?....I don't know anymore..)
And it's also what somebody else said. Too much hype from outside parties. When you finally give into the crowd and try it out yourself, you just don't see anything special about it. However in my case, it sometimes cause me to avoid the game entirely. (I never played Halo or Halo 2, nor do I plan on ever doing so. I'm one of those ppl who don't like following a rave unless it really catches my attention.)
One of my friends thought the Final Fantasy games shared a storyline, and in case you didn't know they don't share any story whatsoever.
The best Final Fantasys you can play are for the Snes.
Like people are saying Final Fantasy 3 is the best that you can play on the PSP.
(Most people call it 6 since that is what it is called in Japan, and the number makes much more sense.)
Before you judge a Final Fantasy play through the whole game (and don't rush.)
I agree with kaioshade about how FF7 WASNT as good as everyone says.
I've been playing FF games for years but I skipped VII for some reason. I played I, II, IV, V, VI, IX, X, and completed them all but it was only about 3 months ago when I finally decided "Thats it. I'm playing FF7". I thought that if this game is really as good as people say it is, it should be able to stand the test of time, cuz IMO, I can still play most of the older ones and still enjoy it.
I then played FF7 and completed it in about 30 hours on my first go and I wasnt impressed. Yeah, it was a good game but no where near as good as people make it out to be. If you're a fan of FF6, you'll know that a lot of things were ripped off it and remade to the game. But the only reason people love the game so much was because for most american people, it was the game that introduced them to RPGs. And for the people who had been playing RPGs, it was their first 3D RPG. IMO, your opinions are biased when you say FF7 is so great. An unbiased opinion would be to say if FF8 or 9 was the best AFTER playing FF7.
If someone wants to play Final Fantasy games, I suggest they start at the first one and understand where the roots of the game came from. And if you played them all in order, I can bet you that you'll probably think 7 is not the best one of the series.
the hot female chars and movie cutscenes and the legendary story are the greatest thing bout it
what sucks is the damn turned based gameplay and repetition of basiclly rolling some dice
its worth it for the experiance but damn it take forever and a day
i thought chrono cross was garbage.
it hurt after chrono trigger was one of my favorite games.
MY LIST
----------
1) Secret of Mana
2) Chrono Trigger
3) Final Fantasy Adventure
4) Earth Bound
5) Final Fantasy III
I never had III til later years of my life, adventure always will hold a spot in my heart
escp when the girl gets bit my medusa....
AND DIES!
HEARTBREAKER!
SaGa Frontier is about 300 mb (at least thats what my original disc's iso comes to, so yea, emulating it shouldnt be too much of a problem. Epsxe with some basic software plugins can emulate it without too much problems.Zitat:

That is part of the reason for my backlash against FF7. Most of the fanboys screaming OMG BEST EVA!!!11!. But at least i can have civilized conversations with you guys about it. Just hearing the discussion put me in anti-ff7 mode instantly. :think:Zitat:

hmm i think the one that really actually sticks with me is ff legends on gameboy.
the game was different from alot of the others and the ending had a weird twist.
memorable moments when you find the dead father and read his notes telling his kids to take care of each other and then later finding the dead kids.
very sad game. alot of traveling around and exploring.
one thing i hated most about ff7 and up most.
when your playing and next thing you know the game takes control of your characters out of nowhere and you just have to watch.
it did this alot and made it where it seemed like you didn't control it.
no in ff3 for snes, the are where its in the opera house and you have to mimic the moves and say parts of the song was not easy. if that stuff was incorporated in the other games it would been more enjoyable.
none of this mini game crap.
just because its a thinkign game doesnt make it a womans game, and noone was insulting your intelligence you just took it the wrong, just cause people have an imagination and arnt sadists and want to blow peopel up like in gta doesnt mean theyr womanZitat:

Everyone forgets FF: Mystic Quest, the only non-Japanese FF(maybe there was a Japanese version?). I remember getting that game since it was only $30 at the time. That was my first FF game. Of course that game was meant for beginners to RPGs though.
hey i resent that remark, im not a fanboy. ff7 is just the first ff i played and the most memorable im my mind.to be honest i want to say i like another rpg better than ff7 but with crap in stores like ffx-2 and ff11 i cant. I dont like SaGa Frontier but i dont call you or anyone else that likes it a fanboy And not liking something cause its popular is kinda childishZitat:
Zitat von kaioshade
ff9 got me into ff hehe i loved that game so much i also liked ff7 and 10 havnt play anything before that ffx-2 was just crap lol
Do not take it personally. You dont say that, so you are obviously not a ff7 banboy. I said fanboys is not what killed it for me. If you like something, great, but proclaiming its the best ever with no real reasons other than "its just the best" that is what irks me.Zitat:

I said SaGa Frontier was a brilliant game. i didnt compare it to anything, i even said its not for everyone. Now if i said SAGA FRONTIER IS BEST EVA!!!! then i would understand a backlash against me
i like Final fantasy legends 3 for the GB. i borrowed that game from a freind for a while, and that was the first RPG i ever really got into.
other favorites are FF8 (best not flame me) and FF10
i really want to play Star ocean 3 till the end of time, i was gonna buy it in the store a while ago... then i realized i didnt have any money :(
why would some one flame you for liking ff8 and 10 and if they do then think you still like it and thats all that matters
if anything im surprised no one flamed me for saying i liked kingdom hearts
i could never get into starocean could some tell me if its any good
I'll tell you a great RPG. It's turn-based, but it adds features that make the old turn-based fun!
Mario and Luigi: Super Star Saga for Gameboy Advance. You may have played it, maybe not, but it's a great game. I've only played it on the GBA, I don't know if it runs on the emulator yet.
I'd say the best Old-School RPG would be Dragon Quest(JP)/Warrior(US). I believe it was the first RPG to come out for the NES. Although it would have been nice of Enix at the time to come out with Dragon Quest 5 and 6 for SNES, but sadly I think that's why most people are into Final Fantasy. I love Final Fantasy II/IV for the SNES since it never really put me to sleep. Now if there was a RPG that could shake Final's ground, it might have been Romancing Saga 2 and 3. Too bad those didn't come out over here, and the PSX versions well... sucked.
I'm glad that they are redoing the first Romancing Saga (tho I'd wish for 2 or 3) later this year. Then I believe a month or two afterwards, Dragon Quest VII!! Been waiting for a release for so long.... :wall:
Anyhoo, I think the popularity of FF VII rose up since there weren't any good RPG's out, and Beyond the Beyond stunk from Beyond its now grave. Well, enough of my ranting.. and back to Shin Megami Tensei:Nocturne.
It works on the PC emulator, if you were wondering.Zitat:

i love turn based games because it requires strategy to beat unlike hack'n'slash (which i also like) which require pretty much attacking everything the same way. in turn based games each monster requires certain tactics to defeat, it also allows you build up a party that work together to beat things up. such as having a white mage to keep everyone alive and keeping them healthy, black mages to nuke things, warriors or tanks or other melee doing constant physical damage. i could go on and on but u get the idea.
I enjoy SaGa Frontier not because it's from the makers of Final Fantasy..i enjoy it because it has many things that you don't find in other RPG's..and it was very interesting as well as very fun for me...you are free to do whatever you want...whenever you want in that game...choosing people for your party cant be any better...since you have LOADS to choose from...also i enjoyed the sorta 2D feeling i got from the characters...and also the fact that once again i got to see deformed characters in an RPG again...like the good ol' days. The thing that stood out most for me however was the great combo system it has...what could be cooler than having 5 party members attacking at the same time??...or...equipping just the right moves on your character to unlock a truly amazing one (DSC!!!)...and dont forget one important thing..with just about any character in that game, you can customize them to be whatever you want them to be...the character "Blue" was a master magician...yet you could make him a swordsman if you want...a magician doing Insane sword skills??? Can't go wrong there :D
SaGa Frontier is also only 300megs on the PS1??? Hmmm....the graphics aren't even close to being considered top notch for a PS1...also their are no CG's to worry about...honestly...i think a PSX emulator for PSP should be able to run this game fine...you dont need to really worry about the 3D processing as much as you would with something like FF7...the file size is relatively small for a PS1 game, I would really like to try this out...this is the ONLY reason i want PS1 emulation on the PSP :D
TIMELORD!!!!
awwww... great topic of discution! Final Fantasy was my all time favorite serie. I remember when my older cousin bought it brand spanking new from the store. And that my friends, was the very first one. (the one where you start on the airship and go get a crystal. hihi) I sat for hours staring at that game and it deffenatly got my childhood imagination going.
I personnally loved ff7. I can't even count the hours I've spend in my lasy boy playing that game.lol. Must off played it at least 4 times over. And as for ff3, ( 6 in jap or whatever the numbers confuse me :P) I never got the chance to play it. Only had the rental for a week and I had school.:(
To stay on topic, I guess you have to roll under the blankets and make yourself REALLL conffy to let your mind wonder into the distand dream that is Final Fantasy. And by real conffy I mean, everything close by,patato chips, pop, ashtray(if you smoke :P) everything so you don't have to get up for another 5 hour minimum. lol
Top games I'm looking forward to play on PSP are:
1. Final Fantasy 3
2. Terranigma
3. Secret of Mana
4. Tales of Phantasia
5. Zelda ( just can't get enough for some odd reason)
These are all SNES roms by the way.
Oh yeah, where's the guy that started the topic to start whit???
Is he swalowed up in some RPG? hehe
You loved FF7? Then you MUST play FF6...it is basically the same thing as FF7...just a different story..same plot...find it...download it...and play it now!!!!!Zitat:

I am looking forward to enjoying the game. I do have it but beleive it or not,my PC can't even run SNES roms all that good. :wall: I'll just have to wait till saturday when I get ma PSP and hope that it runs well.
I personnally wouldn't want to spoil the the whole astmosphere of the game running it on my old PC. ;)
i also like ff tactics and ff tactics advance
I was just trying it with the new SNES9x 002y15 emulator for PSP with 333MHZ, 3 Frameskip, 11kHz Sound, VSync off, with no graphic or sound speed enhancements (they mess up your menu's) and it ran AMAZING!!!!Zitat:
Zitat von XteticX
Huge improvement from the SNES9x 002y13 and 14 versions....
It runs good with 2 frameskip also...but i use 3 so it runs great all the time. even in battles :D
Now i'm gonna see if Super Mario RPG is playable yet on Y version 15...
I didn't even know they made a tatics advance? What platform is it on?Zitat:
i also like ff tactics and ff tactics advance
I played the original FFtactics on psx but never got around to finishing it. I kept loosing my saves. :
(Curse those cheap madcatz MC)
Tactics "Advance"...meaning it's on GB Advanced, lol :DZitat:

So FF3 does run good on PSP. :D
Good thing I'm only getting one now. I get to enjoy the latest emu as a start.
I must be tired. lol its pretty obvious indeed!Zitat:

Super Mario RPG is playable now with same settings i used for FF 3.
Tales of Phantasia with these setting runs better than AMAZING!!! Very dissapointing however that it still crashes the moment you leave town...sad really since Y15 is superior to .003 in my opinion :(
Y really needs to fix this problem.... :(
wait hold on :hand: mario rpg is playable now im gonna go play right now
The first battle with bowser was a little slow..but everything else runs fine for me...dont be alarmed if the sound is slow though..cause the gameplay isnt...reply here after you try it for yourself :DZitat:
Zitat von kingsh*t
From what I read in other topics, SMrpg was almost unplayable due to major slowdowns. Suprised to hear you say its playable now. ;) Its one game I won't miss out on. Too bad ToP has that freeze up. Maybe someone could pass the point of freeze up whit .003 and then continue on whit Y15. ( just a thought)
By the way, its kinda hot here and I can't sleep. :p Any other good rpgs that play on psp emus I should know off. I don't really know of any good title on GB/GBA. I in the mood for ROM hunting. :D
i am now offically happy  now when i dont have to adjust any settings at all im gonna personally start giving out free psps
wOOt! let me be the first one on your list!hahaha :oZitat:
