V1.1 Roms?
Some rom sites catalogue roms as complete sets and package them as a .7z - in one .7z file there are several (presumably) every dump for a specific game, many include translations, trainers, different versions from different countries, hacks, etc. I've recently noticed a few games, more popular ones having a V1.1, what is this? For example:
Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (U) (V1.0) [!].smc
Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (U) (V1.1).smc
How can a rom have another version? I don't believe its a hack or anything as an update, but can someone shed some light on this? Thanks

There are different versions released. Sometimes they find a new bug that was missed before, fix it, and re-release the fixed version instead of making more copies of the old one. The [h1], [!], and whatnot are just indicators for various special properties of the ROM. I had a guide for that sitting around somewhere; I'll see if I can dig it up for you.

Also, the V1.0 usually has things in it that may have been removed in later versions. For examlpe, in one of the Nintendo 64 Zelda games, Ganon's death was accompanied by a spurt of red blood in V1.0, but this was removed in later versions. Sometimes the fixes are as simple as removing extra text, or an unwanted piece of scenery.

Usually, you're better off getting the one with the higher number.
