Emulator runs fine, ROMs freeze my PSP
My PSP is a 2.0 and I'm using the 0.9 eboot loader with SNES9xTYL v0.2c.
First of all, where should I place the ROMs? I put them in the SNES9xTYL folder but I have to hit triangle twice after I run the emulator before I see the list of them. Then when I run one of them, I see some blue boxes come up really quick and then the screen goes all black and nothing happens. I have to hold L, R, and start to exit.
So, how can I get things to work?

Ok move the roms somewhere else and use them if that don't work then it's a bad dump =P.

what do you mean by a bad dump? How would I fix that?
And where do you suggest moving the ROMs?

ROMs freezing on firmware 2.00 has nothing to do with the quality of the dump. Some ROMs simply don't work under 2.00 . I'm not sure why.

Cause 2.0 is still usermode access only. Some games might need more power for the emu etc. Thus 1.50 is still the better option for 100% homebrew. ;)
Not all EMU versions work either.

Well, absolutely none of my ROMs worked, including some that I'm absolutely sure people have tested and work fine in 2.0.
They're common games like Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, and Final Fantasy 4.
It was my impression that that particular SNES emulator has been confirmed to work just fine with the 2.0 eboot. It's on Fanjita's list.
I'll try getting my ROMs from a different source, but the person I obtained them from uses them on her PC regularly (I don't have any emulators on my PC to test them myself).

I think you had to use the snes version below 2c but I could be wrong.

That's odd. What games were you trying to run?

I tried Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, and Final Fantasy 4, and several others (those are just what I remember off the top of my head).
I tried using an earlier version of the emulator, v0.1, and I got stuff to work but the games were really slow and choppy, and I figure the newer emulator will run them better.
So yeah...

I don't know what could be the problem. Super Mario World and Super Metroid both work fine for me.

That's a bit inaccurate. User mode allows you to use the full speed of the PSP's processor (333MHz). If there were any kernel mode functions in the emulator, the EBOOT loader would say so. Kernel mode doesn't give the program "more power;" it just gives it access to more resources, including hardware such as the UMD, the flash memory, and the wifi adapter.

snesTYL 2c does not work on 2.0 because it uses kernal you must use
snes9xTYL-0.1
it does not use kernal so it should work

Sorry to bother you but yes you can have battle front 2 on 1.5, there isnt even battle front 1 either. I know this is off topic but the last thread had gotten closed and I wanted to let you know the truth.

version 0.2c works fine on 2.00, Fanjita created a patch which allowed it to run. Re-download your ROMs, place them in x:\PSP\GAME\snes9xTYL\ROM s (easier to find). PM me for some good sites.

were your roms unzipped?
It did the trick for me...my psp would just stay at a black screen if I tried to load a zipped rom...

If you want your snes roms to work 99% of the time go back to eboot loader 0.8.5 .... I ran all roms flawlessly with this eboot loader ... with the newest eboot loader version 9 there are problems running roms SOMETIMES... 70% of the time i can run em other times i get a freeze while loading rom as well....
If you don't want to hassle with it got back to eboot loader 0.8.5 enough said.
a few good things to mention for Fanjita's v0.9 eboot loader iis that it allows you to use WIFI and I've also been able to use USB from homebrew with no kernel access thanks to Fanjita and someone else who wrote a USB app ...

You could try a different rom or re-install the emulator. If you want you can also try reseting your system defaults, idk if it would help but it might ;).

hey im new here,
I was having the same problem as the thread starter with the screen freezing...
At first i thought it was the roms, but they all worked with zsnes on the PC so that theory went out the window...After a couple of hours of fiddling around with the eboot i discovered the problem with the snes emelator has something to do with shutting down fanjitas eboot by pressing start...
Heres how i got everything working again...
when the snes roms initially froze i first exited the emulator (hold L and R then press start)...then i exited fanjitas eboot for 2.0 by pressing start...The games all came back working fine...
I then tried shutting down again using Fanjitas eboot start and my games kept freezing...With my PSP i have come to the conclusion the start shutdown is what's messing up the snes emulator...
To avoid this freezing in the future after your games work again make sure you shutdown the PSP manually from now on after your done...Dont use Fanjitas eboot press start shutdown...Just hold the turn on/off button and shutdown like that...This is what i do and my games dont mess up anymore...
I hope this helps...

this is what i do, it works pretty good!
Zitat von k0ol
just make sure you turn the machine fully off for long enough. just turning it off for a few seconds sometimes doesnt work. try 30 seconds to make sure the ram properly clears.
(btw k0ol, if you didnt tell us you were new, we might not have guessed ^_^)

i had the same problem with my friends, all i did was when you choose a rom press square to 'launch using default settings'
it was nothing to do with the roms because they worked for a while then something in settings triggered it, no idea what tho
hope it helps
