Sam and Max voice

I've spent the past two hours searching google and in these forums, and I've yet to find the answer to this problem:

I've installed scummvm, loaded sam and max onto it, started the game w/ no problems, but when I make it into the game and start playing, the voices are replaced by subtitles. All the other sounds are functioning correctly. I went into options, checked the box that says, enable voices, and unchecked the box that says, enable subtitles, but there's no difference.
I feel like a flippin' noob, but I just wanted to see if anyone else had been able to manage to get the voice overs working. I've got a sneaking suspicion that I was provided w/ a text only version as opposed to the talkie. :Argh:

how big is the file ?

the .sou file is only 2mg.. I guess that would answer that question.

yupp u just answered ur own question , with voice the whole game would be around 200 mb
