What system did u start out on video games??

Apart from a solar powered LCD game called Amazon, the first computer I owned and played games on was an Atari XL. It was the first machine I learnt coding on btw. :D I then went on to own various Atari STs (part of why I love the STEEM Emulator :) ), an Atari Falcon (funny machine that), an Amiga 600HD, a 486 PC (subsequently upgraded and replaced several times), a Playstation, PS2, Xbox, and finally the marvellous PSP. :)

We did also have a CGA 8mhz 8086 PC, and I'd been playing on C64 and PCs and Pong machines of other people I knew before that.

SNES for me.

I started on the Intellivision and the Apple][e.

if my memory serves me right i had the big *** gameboy with tetris

them my mom sold my gameboy to my uncle and i got a even bigger sega portable system (its name escapes me rights now )

super nintendo i remember like being 3 and playing donkey kong country 2 and street fighter 2 and the funny thing is i knew exactly what i was doing

How dare you call the NDS a gameboy, it is not! That's the one thing I hate...people calling the DS a gameboy, it's just wrong!

How is it NOT a gameboy? I mean, I understand that it's called "Nintendo DS", but honestly, what's wrong with calling it a Gameboy DS? It plays Gameboy Advance games. Also, I call it a gameboy when talking to my wife, and kids. I don't call my PSP my Playstation Portable though, because #1 it's easier to say PSP and #2, there's already a console we refer to as the "Playstation".

But for the sake of being understood by other people, is it really so bad to call the NDS a Gameboy DS? How about Gameboy/DS? I mean, that's exactly what it is, a Gameboy, and DS, all in one.

People and their pet peeves...

Course...I hate it when someone says "Let's go up to California" when the person lives in Montana. Not only is it "Down" on a map, but it's also "down" in sea-level. If a place is south of you on a map, it should be "Down" to that place, and if it's North of you on a map, it should be "Up" to that place. Now THAT's a valid pet peeve.

I may only be 18, but i started out on the NES when I was only 3. So unlike many my age, I started out on the 8bit era and am still going.

Plus, the DS is NOT a gameboy. According to Nintendo, its simply a "3rd pillar" of Nintendo. The 1st being consoles, the second being Gameboy, and the new third being the DS. Just because the DS "plays" GBA games doesnt make it a Gameboy. The DS is more of a "modern Game&Watch"

Bah, I'm still going to refer to it sometimes as Gameboy, sometimes as DS.

Speaking of my "Gameboy DS", I am really excited for Lunar to come out for it.

When i was a kid , my mom had an Atari . She was also in an Atari Club . lol , She would pay some cash , pick up to like 20 up and coming games . When they came out they would come in the mail . It was -shall-i-say- *RAD* .
That is the system i started out on . Breakout , Pacman , Pit Fall 1&2 , E.T. (ohh god that game sucked ) , Defender=my all time favorite game .
I still have a fond place in my heart for the Atari , hell i owned one up until 5 years ago . come to think of it , i still wish an Atari Emulator was out for the PSP . Ohh well , then came NES ... my all time favorite NES game .... Solstice !

Contra on the NES at my uncle's house. Begged my parents for one and the rest is history.

mine was the SNES, it was a friends. i remember playing mega man on it. but the first game system i ever owned was the gameboy, not the original fat one but the skinny one, (i think Nintendo refered to it as the Gameboy "Pocket" but i never had it in my pocket) that was back in christmas of 97, i think. then about a year later i got a GBC. and i remember begging my parents for a N64, for so long they finally gave in and got me one for Christmas one year. i loved that thing so much, and i remember getting in so much trouble when i got cought playing GoldenEye (still the best 007 game to date) at a friends house (my mom didnt like me playing "T" rated games, i was only 9). but one moment really stands out when i got my GBA, my dad brought it home and i put in GT Advanced Racing. i thought the graphics where so cool (for the time they were). but then times chaged, i remember playing my cousins psone, that really skinny one. just last year in january i really wanted an xbox cuz all of my friends had it, we would spend hours playing Halo. but i didnt have nearly enough money and my parents wouldnt buy it for me even for my birthday which wasnt that far away. my friend probably had the biggest impact on me getting my PS2. i came home one day after playing it and i crossed out xbox on my bday list and put PS2 (which was cheaper) and wouldnt you know for my birthday i got my first playstation. i loved that system too, nightfire was one of the first games i got for it (back when EA made good 007 games). and now a year lader i still own my GBP (dont know where it is, but i still have it somewhere) GBC, GBA, N64, PS2 and now my PSP.

and i still think that Rareware is the best game develper today, Banjo Kazooie, GoldenEye, Conkers Bad Fur Day. i think they should come back and make GoldenEye for the PS2 (or the PSP, that would be awsome) and maybe the upcoming PS3 as well...but seeing as that will never happen, im still having trouble looking for the game for 64. what ever happened to Rareware anyway?

If you beat mario when you were 2, then you should be like a game god by now. Like "The Wizard" with Fred Savage.

I was a computer gamer first and formost... I started reading early and liked showing off to my mother and father all the time. Mind you when you learn to read young you have no idea what the words you are reading mean unless they are used in some sort of sentence.

So one day I say "Gee Dad could you help me with something?"

"Sure son, what is it."

"Well dad I was trying to run Wizardry and it would work after I had tried to make it better."

"Make it better? What do you mean?"

"Well I put the game in drive B: and was running your disk utilities from drive A: I couldn't copy it to a new disk so I ran ... Umm it was call (Phonetics) "day - little" I think..."

"It was called what? Spell it for me."

"Okay D-E-L-E-T-E."

"Ohh..... Um son that was not the right program."

I can't even fathom some one starting out on N64, but that's because I started out on SNES. Actually, the truth of the matter is, I might as well have started out on NES. I got the Super Nintendo for christmas that came packaged with the "Super Mario Allstars" and "Super Mario World" games. I never played Super Mario World though, always Allstars, and ALWAYS Super Mario 1. So, you could say I was a 16-bit kid with an 8-bit heart. :) . I swear this **** almost makes me cry though. Nostalgia's a b!tch, because you miss those days so much....I'd trade my PSP if I could only be 4 again. :(

I totally agree with you. Something was different about games back then it seems. There was a different feeling I had inside of me when I played games then vs. now. We live in a day and age where it's now all about the graphics and sound, then it was about the content and addictive gameplay. I think that's what made games back then so fun.

8-bit, and even 16-bit games were the crack of that generation, providing quite the stimulation. I think that's why I try playing roms so much, because I want to go back to that time...but it's just not the same. I still find it fun, but it'll never be like it once was.

It's funny, too, because my 5-year old daughter is starting out with games on the PS2 and I think to myself, "With her starting out on the PS2, and if she were to play games like I did...would she become as good of a game player as me, or will she be missing some key experience that was gained from playing games on the old-school systems?"

I am almost tempted to whip out the ole' NES just to have her start there, and work her way up. Kids are so spoiled with all their dag um graphical games.
