PKMN or DWM? Good question. I think if DWM was more organized like/than Pokemon and there was the ability to catch more than 1 of the same monster, it`d be better. DWM had the monster breeding tho, which Pokemon doesn`t exactly have (yeah day care but still). Also, DWM`s adventure wasn`t too thrilling and involving (You had to rescue your sister by winning a tournament? Half way through the game you forget you even had a sister!) Whereas Pokemon spanned across the world putting you to the test before you became a master.

Basically what I`m saying is Pokemon > DWM only because DWM didn`t have too much to offer. Boring story, annoying organization and lack of customization killed it for me :/

Oh please... Dragon Warrior Monsters all the way

I personally played both Dragon Warrior Monsters 1, 2 and Pokemon series.

Yes, Pokemon series is very solid RPG despite of its childish feel. I believe its merit is 'gotta catch 'em all' addiction where you play it to catch every single pokemon.

Some say that DWM borrowed 'monster-catching' element from Pokemon, thus, Pokemon is better than DWM(and I'm sure most of them who say that are either big Pokemon fanatics or never have played DWM series). However, the biggest difference is the complex breeding system in DWM. The purpose of game is not just to catch but also create new monsters through breeding. And trust me, you will never breed a monster you want unless you have a walkthrough or a detailed chart. Make sure you get that monster chart or you are not going anywhere (that's why it took 130 hrs to finish first DWM..and 70hrs for second one WITH the chart.. but it was worth every second)

If you are a big fan of Dragon Warrior series (yes, YOU, you old schoolers~), you will fall in love with DWM instantly.
First DWM doesn't have much of story but it has excellent selection of musics (also music from Dragon Warrior series) and solid game play, coupled with plot twist at the end.

Whereas Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 actually has stories, just like playing Dragon Warrior series(YES!!), more monsters, and polished everything.
However, you need both version of DWM2 in order to unlock last stage, which is not necessary to complete the game (and they share same story with some exclusive monsters for each version)

My verdict? well, DWM2 was a great game since it has actual story instead of just walking around countless mazes in DWM, however, I would choose first DWM over DWM2 for one reason. DWM2 is a really polished game from the first one and highly recommended. However, I think it has to do with the music from DWM that created amazing atmosphere coupled with the protagonist's search for his kidnapped sister, creating this awesome synergy for the gamers. Whereas, second one is about a brother/sister who has to look for a plug for the sinking kingdom which was caused by this prince with attittude problem. Great game, no question about it, but didn't offer same level of motivation or sympathy for the main protagonist.

I felt for the protagonist in the first DWM who had to train monsters vigorously to win the tournament in order to find his kidnapped sister...

Anyway, DWM and Pokemon are both great games and you should play them all.
Yet, DWM and Pokemon are two different game- being RPG and catching monsters are probably only similar element from these two series.

Personally I would choose DWM series without having a second thought, period.

Man, this thread made me wanting to play DWM again... shoot-
