You can't and never will be able to until you can download them directly form Sony (with an update coming next winter), with a fee. Or until someone releases a PSOne emulator for the PSP.
So basically, no, you can't play PSOne games off your PSP right now.

PacManFan's PSPSOne Emulator is very much a work in progress and isn't of much use at the moment...

I say this based on no real facts but Iwould bet that sony will be releasing their PSOne Emulator for the PSP by the end of year. And Im sure that FVII will be one of the first games available.

They are not releasing a PlayStation emulator. They are porting games to the PSP and providing them for download in EBOOT.PBP form.

Seriously, do you know how large some of those PS1 games can be?
Granted there are a few tiny ones out there that MIGHT make this feasible, but for the bad boys that everyone wants and span multiple PS1 discs - like Final Fantasy VII - there's no way you can download that without a good broadband connection and it would take something like a 1GB or 2GB memstick to even make it possible. Still doable, but the games might not be any good.
My vote is that Sony will just flat-out burn an ISO made from a PS1 game straight to UMD (or UMDs) and sell that instead. It will also allow third-party PS1 developers to re-sell their back catalog of games on UMD in-between major new releases so they can generate more profits during the "slow" months.

You just have to think like every major corporation does, namely to increase quarterly profits by keeping expenditures low while increasing market share in order to inflate stock prices and keep existing shareholders happy which always attracts new shareholders.
It's one big circle that does a complete rotation every quarter.
Basic Business 101.
Some of you would learn that if you would move out of your parents' basement and go to damn college.

How many f**king times do I have to address this. It's the "Official Playstation Emulator" meant to play modified PS1/2 games. PS3 is possible from what I hear.

That is HILLARIOUS, PS3 games? wtf!
Zitat von TheMysteriousThug
Developers will have just made a game for the PS3, if they decide to put it on the PSP they will release it as a UMD, they won't give it for download.
PS2 games? How about no, again you can see some PS2 ports on the PSP and they are released as UMDs.
PS1 games, yeah probably but only the first generation ones since they are smaller, even then its up to the publisher to decide whether to sell it. Look at Street Fighter Alpha Max 3, that was released on UMD and sold pretty well so why offer it for download when you can make more money releasing it on UMD?

So what if they are modified? Developers would always choose to release on UMD. Considering these PSP games will be DRMed with so much **** I woiuld gladly pay a bit extra to get the game on UMD instead.

What frustrates me is that they didnt release Breath of Fire III for PSP, hopefully it will be one of the downloads for the "official Playstation Emulator" for PSP.

I for one hope to god that FFVII NEVER EVER comes out on PSP.
It's so over rated it's not even funny. Every two weeks or so we get people asking about it being ported and it's driving me crazy!

I wouldn't consider it overrated; IMHO Final Fantasy VII completely lives up to its reputation.

It really doesn't. It's just the fact that for alot of people it was the first good RPG they played and it's been stuck in their hearts ever since.

I think if it came out people would buy and put it aside and say "yay I've got FF:VII on PSP.. I'll play it later"

there's plenty of people who havne't had exposure to FFVII, let alone the whole FF series in general. just because it was extremely popular and had huge sales doesn't necessarily mean EVERYONE knew what the game was about when it first came out. sure, i was around when the game first came out, but i had little interest for it because i wasn't lucky enough to own a ps1.

How about this quote from the original story on the front page of PSPupdates.
Zitat von iball
"Sony will be starting a new e-Distribution system for the PSP. You may start to wonder what it is, huh? Well, simply saying - to buy and download games into your memory stick, and run them directly from it!! Bye-bye, loading times... But wait, that is not all the fun you can get from the new service. There will also be an OFFICIAL PlayStation Emulator by Sony itself (PacManFan, don't cry)! Sony will be distributing modified PlayStation/PlayStation 2 games through this system."
Almost all PSone games did not have more than one disc. If the disc was full of data the most it could possibly hold would be 800MB. That would easily fit on a 1GB card. Also it specifically says that they will be "modified" versions. I would bet that one of those modifications will be to make the game smaller. One possibility for games that span multiple discs could be playing through the first section then downloading the next part or something of that nature.
Oh yea and Final Fantasy VII is an amazing game and deserves the reputation of being one of the best games ever made, but I think it is overrated in the sense that far too many people think it is the best Final Fantasy game ever which is just plain silly.Geändert von z3ddicus (04-29-2006 um 06:05 PM Uhr)

I'll agree that ff7 is over rated, but that doesn't make it a bad rpg. It was so popular for a reason. You can make as many excuses as you want, it takes alot of skill and development to make a decent game such as that. At least give it credit for making console rpgs as popular as it is today. Bringing ff7 to the psp is a good idea not for the fans, but for the new gamers who didn't play it yet. It's one of the best rpg games to start out with.

n00b isn't even a real word.
I spell words that you can actually find in the dictionary correctly, and with near flawless grammer I might add.
PS: Only a real n00b would try to put FFVII on his memory stick and play it.
