CPS2 gamelist + settings
========================= ========================= ================
First off thanks NJ , you are the EMULATION master.
Without a doubt, one of the best emulation programmer on the psp, considering that your Alpha,Beta,Test, and released emulators run at full speed or near full speed.
Keep working on this cool emulator, we are all rooting for you.
Thanks for all the emulators you made.
Also thanks to all the emulator and homebrew authors, you all have made the psp such a great gaming/application machine, the psp is now one of the coolest homebrew portable machine around.
note to Zx-81: can you implement some of these features like a cache to make the pspvba run better or support larger size roms???
========================= ========================= ================
NOTE: Games that require clones need the original large size rom + [US] clone/s
FULL SET (usually alot smaller like 1 or 2 mbs but never in the region of the larger rom e.g 20mb~).
UPDATE: IMPORTANT NOTE
YOU DO NOT NEED THE [US CLONES] TO PLAY.
Alternatively you can get any of the other clones e.g Japanese etc. but you need to get the full Japanese sets.
Of course this means the story lines will be in japanese but if you can't find the US clones then do this.
note: still testing, if others test theirs feel free to add to the post and i will update it
========================= ========================= ================
****All Games need the cache except for the one/s that says NO CACHE)****
Legend - (same as the street lights) :)
GREEN = Fastest games
ORANGE = Good enough speed to be playable (Go to SPEED TWEAKS section)
RED = Slow so not as playable unless you don't mind the slowness of the gameplay.
Go to speed improvements section to make it a bit more playable.
Actually it is a miracle to even have these cool arcade games/fighters to even work on the PSP, let's hope the
N64 gets better, and fingers cross for the PS1 emulator (but i know there will be a force update, so hope they can hack it).

Guide to get the roms to work and speed improvements.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Get rom plus clone [us] of any games that have "needs clone" next to it
2. Use the converter program [romcnv.exe] that comes with the CPS2 emulator.
Convert the original large rom. The converted file are stored in the "cache" folder.
3. Copy the cache zip [e.g xmvsf_cache.zip] in the cache folder to
[pspdrive]\psp\games\cps2psp\cache\
4. Copy large size rom e.g xmvsf.zip and all US clones: xmvsfu.zip xmvsfur1.zip to
[pspdrive]\psp\games\cps2psp\roms\
5. Launch the emulator and select one of the US/JAP/or any country clones,
if the first one you try doesn't load then try the second clone.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In-Game settings.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6. To change games or settings or return to the menu, press "select + start".
7. To change DIP SWITCH setting in-game, press L1+R1+select
(if you are using IRshell then it is also a shortcut to exit IRshell,
just simply press to L1+select to return to CPS2 game and you have the DIP SWITCH settings).
If you need to exit the DIP SWITCH choose the exit option and some games say
press START + SHOT 1.
Shot 1 is simply the P1 or punch 1, default is the SQUARE button on PSP unless you changed keys.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speed Improvements settings for slow ass games
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.Frame limit = off
2.Add some frameskips?? 2 or 3. I think that is. And try turning off autoframe skip. It helps for some games.
3.Leave raster effect = off
4.Sound = off ( This may be the biggest speed tweak but then the game will only be half as good without the
sound effects and music, but if your willing to sacrifice sound then go for it.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPDATED on Speed Improvements
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After playing around with the CPS2 Test 4 Emulator for a while now,
I find that the BEST SETTINGS for slow fighting games is this:
Greatest Speed Tweaks
1. Screen stretch = off (The BEST speed improvement with this setting, you will notice it in all slow fighter games)
2. 60fps limit = off (Dramatic speed improvement)
3. Auto frame skip = on
Frameskip = 0. (Some games improve speed with a frameskip = 1 or 2 see the gamelist)
4. Sound = on or off (Some games maybe faster, whiles others I did not notice much difference, even at all, like
Marvel Vs. Capcom, plus the game does feel a bit empty without the sound and music)
Leave these settings as their default, changing them to ON, will really slow your game down
5. Raster Effects = off (If you turn this on, it will slow down your fps to half or less aprox ~30fps)
6. Video sync = off (Turn this on makes the gameplay feel smoother but gameplay feels slower)

Why are you putting cache needed? All of them need the cache.

I play MvC with rastor effects on, no sound, and no frameskip and I usually get about 50 fps. It's only during super moves and character switches that the game slows down on.
Hopefully the next version will be able to adress keeping the framerate constant, then this emu would go from super fantabulous to perfect

There are some games that don't need to create a cache
There are some games that don't need to create a cache e.g

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters works perfect, but it DOES need a cache. ;)

No, all the games do not suck. Personally, I prefer great shmups like 19xx, 1944, 1941, Progear, Dimahoo, etc. on these systems to Street Fighter.

thanks man
Zitat von killingscum
I've update the first post, after testing the many settings myself and I think
I've found the best optimal settings.
I think somes don't feel that much faster with the sound on or off??
What do you think? For some reason SFA2 seems to run really good at 60fps compared to the other fighters even some older ones like MSH?
What is your favourite game/s??

I don't get it! I have the ROM, but I need a "clone"?
-
08-12-2006, 06:02 PM #16
yeah you need the rom + the clones of it. The reason is because most of the rom releases are the european version but the emulator requires you to have the clone set.
Zitat von DJShrimpy
It can be US, JAP, etc.. but then the language in the game story will be according to that set. So try to get the US clone set first.
The clones are usually alot smaller file size like 1 or 2 mbs.

Wow, I downloaded this emulator expecting it to be pretty laggy. Pleasant surprise there! I'm pretty much in heaven playing Battle Circuit on my PSP at the full FPS.
You shut your mouth and never open it again.

hahah, yeah that dude doesn't know what he is talking about, saying this CPS2 is crap.
Zitat von kbandressen
yeah it is fast, but to get the best speed turn off screen stretch,
there's also a new test 5 out.
Apparently you may need to redo the cache which I haven't done yet, so let me know if it is any better/faster.
Man so much cool emulators release lately (cps2, gpsp etc.), that are running really good. The psp emulator scene is on fire!!
Let's hope for a full speed n64 soon, maybe a talented new dev will emerge??
As for the ps1, that sounds good, but if it is homebrew one, the games will be really large, and if its the official one, then it will be a force updateand more money wasted to but the games again.
