Default Have you ever opened up a rom for a game you thought you've never played but...

Has this happened to anyone? Here's the scenario:

You open up a rom of a game you're sure you've never even heard of, let alone played. You start playing it for a bit, maybe even for a few hours, and all of a sudden there's a part in the game that makes your brain go "HOLY CRUD! I REMEMBER THIS! I'VE PLAYED THIS GAME!" and for a split second, your mind takes your entire body back to the exact moment in time where you were sitting on your couch, or on the floor, or in your bed, playing this game that you had rented or borrowed from a friend.

After coming back to reality, you are able to start to remember and visualize little blurbs from your past relating to this game. Sometimes you can even remember certain feelings that were induced as a result of playing that game, whether it was joy, frustration, laughter, or more. For that matter, you might even have a memory flash of bits and pieces of what was going on in your life at the time you were playing this game.

Personally, I've had this happen with games that I knew I've played before, as well as games that I thought I had never played before. Just recently I stuck in "Super Ninja Boy". At the opening title, I was thinking "Great, this is going to be ghey." I start playing for a bit, realizing it looks strangly like an RPG game on the main world map (which is REALLY odd because there was a 2 player mode at the start screen). As soon as I get into a battle, and especially when I earned some experience, my brain just went BOOM (yes, it hurt a bit).

All of a sudden, I totally remembered renting this game from whatever game store was around at the time. As I tried to envision what enticed me to play through this game, I realized that it was because at that age, renting a game was a novelty and so I had to make an effort to enjoy any game I was allowed to rent. I know that I only played that game the one time, during the rental period, but I played through a huge chunk of the game. Probably almost beat it for that matter. But it was a 5 day period of my life that I had forgotten until I started playing the rom.

That's not the only game this has happened to me on, either, but it was the most recent.

Anyone else had experiences like this?

Super Mario World 2. That baby mario game? I remember me and my cousin were pretty young, and we were obsessed with this country song at the time. Anyway, when we'd get really into a game, we'd sing, cus that always makes you do better some how, you quit thinking about it so much, and just DO it. Anyway, we were (or I was) playing this game, sitting down in front of the TV, playing on the old SNES. We were sitting there singing...umm...I can't remember the name of the song. It went something like

"I miss billy the kiiid, the fun that we had, the life that he lived"

And on and on like that...it makes me really sad to realize those days are gone... :boohoo:

Lol, I'm 28 and the last time I got a déjŕ vu like the one you were describing is when I was playing Rock 'n Roll Racing (Sega Genesis/Mega Drive) I bought on a flea market a while ago. I was racing for about 10 minutes and so far, it looked like just another generic car race game untill I heard the commentator shout out "Tarquin's going the wrong way!" while the background rock music was blasting away.
And then I had a flashback of my brother and I playing this game sitting on the floor in front of the tv in our previous house and remarking that 'Tarquin' sounded very gay (no offense). We really laughed every time the commentator mentioned his name. Naturally I showed the game to my brother and we played for about 5 minutes and he too laughed his *ss off when he heard that 'infamous' line again.

I know this was a long story to describe a feeling that only lasted about 10 secs but it sure was fun to discover the name again of the game we used to laugh at.

I've had that happened to my with a game which must be the gayest one mentioned by far-the NES's McDonald's McKids. I got the rom just to get a kick out of playing a crappy game(its actually not that bad of a game) and like halfway through the game i was like "HOLY CRAP! I REMEMBER THE GAME FROM WHEN I WAS LIKE 4!!!"

So yeah, I've had one of those moments.

On a simular note, i recently discovered that Dr.Robotnics Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avolanche are EXACTLY THE SAME GAME!

They're both clones of Puyo Puyo. There are more games exactly like that.

Crystalis...I booted that up on my PSP played for like 30 minutes and then it hit me. I played this all the way thru when I was a kid and it was a b itch of a game.

It's funny tho because my memory of it is only one thing....playing it over my friends house and correcting him often about the fact that he said "nuclear" wrong.Stupid Ryan....I bet he's homeless to this day.
