can anyone list all the 32mb roms all I can think of are kingdom hearts, mother 3, and riviera. also when will these be supported on the emu? Gives us some sort of a rough estimate at least.

There are very few 32MB GBA ROMs to go around. 32MB is massive for GBA ROMs. KH:CoM is only 16MB.

there is japanese pokemon games which has over 32MB the games ain't workin because of their size ...
the psp only has this limited ammount of ram which isn't enough for really cpu-intensive emulators ... maybe it would be possible to launch them if someone would be able to create a compression mode for roms or something like this (not sure about this as i am not a dev)

I think the gba reads the cartridge directly, so it doesn't have to load the whole of the rom into memory, and the psp does actually have enough RAM to fit a whole 32MB rom in it, but that's all that would fit, and because the actual emulator needs to run in the background it just wouldn't work. Compressing or trimming the rom is an idea though, sometimes trimming roms can take off quite a bit of space and trimming the 32MB roms could provide just enough space for them to fit into memory. But as i said above, i've heard the guy who created it say somewhere that he could load only part of the rom possibly.

If you look at the Sega CD addon for the Mega Drive(Genesis) you need a cartridge plugged in as well as the CD just to act as RAM. |

If you ladies spent as much time WORKING to save up for a decent GBA/DS flashcart then you wouldn't be whining about what ROMs the GBA emulators on various platofrms can and cannot play.
Now, go Wikipedia for the GBA and GBA carts and read up on how it's done.BTW, the 2nd gen SegaCD (the side-car one) had the extra RAM built-in so there was no need for a RAM cart.

Well actually emulators, and games in general don't work by loading the entire game/rom/cd/dvd etc into RAM, while being very fast it would be horribly expensive (on the consumer and taxing on the system) and inefficent. What these things do usually is load certain parts into ram that are being accessed at certain times. Right now his emulator loads the entire rom into memory, eventually and IMO not too difficult once he focuses on it would it be for him to have it load a portion into memory cached so that bigger roms can be loaded. But I haven't seen many 32MB roms, note there is a difference between MegaBytes and Megabit most roms are at least 32 Megabits some up to 128-256megabits, but they aren't nearly 32mb is size if that makes any sense. bits are talking about how the processor reads the data, and bytes is talking about how much space it takes up.
Hope this clears some people's confusion. |
