I had the EUR rom version and i played it to the end with only one problem (the ice temple boss which is easy to bypass) so try the eur version if your having all these problems might work better.

the ice boss is the NOLY problem apart from the very difficult final boss ;)
But thats down to skill.

Hehe ya I got so fustrated fighting that last boss took me like 10 tries almost gave up lol

Hmm...I'm currently playing it on gPSP right now as well and I haven't had any problems with it so far other than myself getting stuck within the game no outside the game. But hmm...problems with Ice Boss? I'm there right now. The Temple of Droplets?
