I noticed that most of you guys had a problem with Pokemon FireRed saving on gpsp, so i decided to post the fix here.

Well, it's really a rom problem not the emulator itself, you have to patch it with this IPS patch by IPSWIN or a simmilar utility.

If you have any problems patching, feel free to post it here.

PS: I have Pokemon Emerald on GBA but it doesn't need a patch for emulators.

How much of a problem is it to change the save thing to 128kb? Though this still helps quite a bit.

would this same process work for using a savegame taken from gamefaqs? i tried to load a savegame off of gamefaqqs for emerald and it didnt work

I just changed the savetype to 128kb and it worked for me...

Did u get a savegame or a gameshark snapshot? If it ends in *.sps it is an gameshark snapshot and u need to import it in VBA save a normal game save(*.sav) and then put in in gpsp.

i think you have to change the flash save thing to 128 now

or maybe wrong version of gpSP coz when i pres triengle + -> and then go to save option,it says "save option not implemented yet"

you start the game, and then press triangle+right, and then you will see a bunch of options, head down to the option that says "flash rom type" and move it up to 128KB, and i think that will fix it

You're reffering to the savestates, click flash type and change to 128k.

You download the patch and the thingy he mentioned to patch it. You use that and then when its done just put the rom whereever you put the rom. When you start it, the scrren will stay white. Go to the emulators menu and set it to 128k and restart the rom and BAM! It plays well but the sound is choppy, especially when battling.....or is it just me? If so, is there a way to fix that. I doubt it since t5his is just a beat release.

You should NOT use this patch for the following three reasons:

a) It's unnecessary, if you're using a good, unpatched ROM dump.
b) It changes the location of the idle loops, breaking the game_config hacks, resulting in everyone complaining about the speed.
c) It actually makes saves eventually fail. It is naively changing the save space to something smaller than it should be. It's a bad workaround that was just done to make it half work on flashcarts and emulators w/o 128KB flash ROM support.

You can't just change it to 128KB and resume gameplay, the game checks the flash as soon as it loads. You have to change it then restart, or change it before ever loading it.

Hint: If you get a message about the sub-circuit board being missing you might have a good ROM but you need to set 128KB. If you get some inane message about your mum eating children then you've got an already BADLY PATCHED ROM and you should find another.
