Iso's are illegal too, doesn't stop me.

The Wii IS the reason they're so against emulation...

I hear people say "We're playing games they don't even make anymore", which is obiviously false if you look at the Wii...

That's why they don't want you downloading old games they still own. They DO still sell them, and have intentions on selling them for years.

I mean, retro games come out every year (there's a Sega 30 game pack coming out for the PSP soon, am I wrong?). These companies still sell these old games, can you blame them for being mad when you pirate them?

Please, tell me how downloading a Sonic rom, instead of buying the PSP Sega Game pack, is any different from downloading Music, when you could buy it at best buy?

I'm so tired of hearing that lame excuse ("They're not selling those games anymore")... They do, and if they don't now, they will in the future.

And brain_stew is right... Find me a single company, where it's not "all about the money"... That's right, you can't, because there is no such thing... These companies are in a business, and the definition of business is Money.
yeah i agree. But the thing is, i couldn't give a crap how much money these game companies make. Charging money for NES, SNES, and N64 games is just silly if you have a decent computer with some emulators and roms. Absolutely nothing happens if you download roms/isos. Hell, the sites that distribute them somehow stay up on the internet, so whoever's policing the internet probably doesn't care much about the individual downloader. This is just nintendo trying to make money off of archaic games, so they declare that you'll get in trouble for downloading them for free. They just want your money

yeah, that's pretty what i think of compilation titles as well as this Wii downloading service

How Does Nintendo Feel About the Emergence of Video Game Emulators?

The introduction of emulators created to play illegally copied Nintendo software represents the greatest threat to date to the intellectual property rights of video game developers. As is the case with any business or industry, when its products become available for free, the revenue stream supporting that industry is threatened. Such emulators have the potential to significantly damage a worldwide entertainment software industry which generates over $15 billion annually, and tens of thousands of jobs.

LOL, omg, Nintendo get a grip, the words emulators / damage and the sum of 15 BILLION do not mix well.

I've never laughed so much in my life.

The truth of the matter is, they can not put a figure on or state for sure that emulators damage there 15 billion a year industry, as they can not provide proof, for example : if that person couldn't download it, he would of spent his/her money on the official product.

Not only that, when there is a big decrease in that 15 billion a year industry down to something like 5 million a year, then i would consider twice before using a emulator, until then, i see that there claim that its damaging is very much misleading.

I'm so tired of hearing that lame excuse ("They're not selling those games anymore")... They do, and if they don't now, they will in the future.
there are plenty of other systems out there, that ARE NOT making classic packs, IE: for the Amiga, its not all about Nintendo, there are hundreds of very good old classics that never even made it to the likes of the Nintendo or Sega's. so yes there are a lot of games that i like to play that they do not sell or make anymore

    for example:

    Walker (Amiga)
    moonstone (Amiga)
    Frontier Elite (Amiga / PC)
    Alien breed (Amiga)
    Chaos Engine (Amiga)
    Monkey island 1/2 (Amiga)
    Bolder dash 1/2/3/4/5 (C64)
    Para-droid (C64)
    Cauldron (C64)
    Chucky egg (C64)
    Spy Hunter (Original C64)
    Etc.....

and thats just to name but a few, i could go on, yet there just isnt enough room.

So not all the time someone says "they dont sell them anymore", is it an excuse.

QJ.net should be laughed at if they think linking to ROMs is going to get them in legal trouble. There's almost no risk at all. I should know, I ran a freaking ROM site for 3 years, and what happened? One email from IDSA. What happened after that? Nothing. Business as usual.

OF COURSE THEY JUST WANT YOUR MONEY!!!

That's the point. Why else would they do it?

Are you people inept? Why are you so surprised that a company wants to make money?

Businesses make money. That's what they do, and that's their goal. They have absolutly no other motive other than making more money.

So, if you're willing to play the games, don't be mad when Nintendo decides to charge you for it.

That's the deal. I Nintendo still owns it, so if you want to play it, you download it.

So what if it's old... So are Beatles Records... But don't you think they still want you to buy their music?

I can't understand how why people demonize companies for wanting to make money...

Lol, you cant compare video games to records, when a new format comes out for music, they simply shift the music to that new medium and sell it again.

So new format = the same music.

That's not the case with video games, when a new format comes out, they simply make a new game using the same characters.

So new format = different game, same characters and nicer graphics.

I play old games that are no longer available, if they were made available and they ran on my current hardware/OS then yes, i would buy them.

There's two sides to this coin.

One is for playing old games that you can no longer get by means of hard currency

The other is for people who wouldn't buy the game and still want to play it for free.

I don't know, Street Fighter II for Xbox Live Arcade has Online Multiplayer, and worldwide leaderboards... That doesn't seem to be the "same game" that was reasleased back in '92 on the SNES.

Of coarse, I don't see how a change in format has anything to do with the fact that it's still piracy if you download it.

Look, nobody is gonna judge you if you download these games... But your are absolutely kidding your self if you think downloading a Sonic 2 rom, isn't as bad as download Socom FTB2...

Piracy is piracy... If somebody still owns the rights, and could make money on it, it's just as illegal if you download a game that came out yesterday.

Now, in 50 years, when those games become public domain, then you can download them to your hearts content... But until then, your taking something that isn't yours. Make no mistake about that.

    Well to be perfectly honest

i think anyone talking about legal rights doesn't really have a leg to stand on

every one i know, at some point in there life has done something illegal
from speeding in a car / running a red light / smoking or taking drugs to theft of music via download / drinking under age or by other means, i can pretty much guarantee that at some point in every members life of this forum, they have done at least 1 thing that was illegal.

its really a mute point and every one is just trying to kid themselves that they can stop it happening or there "trying to do the right thing"

its almost like people blaming video games for causing violence, when there are far more "graphic" things being shown on TV in movies and on the news
