gpSP 0.8 compatibility
This is a discussion on gpSP 0.8 compatibility within the ROM Discussion forums, part of the PSP Development, Hacks, and Homebrew category; Zitat von TheCygnus Riviera isn't working for me... How do you put it works perfectly in the list?. Riviera does ...

Riviera does work unzipped with the bios that starts 18 in a hex editor, it crashes or has horrible horrible sound issues with the bios that starts 14 in a hex editor, also crashes zipped...

I've seen this happen on ROMs that were badly patched to get around the need for 128KB flash (probably for flash carts). Find another ROM (and you probably have to start over)
Zitat von Cittris
You can see if it's using the right save type if the .sav file gpSP creates is 128KB, rather than 64KB. If your current one is 64KB or less then you're probably out of luck.

Savestates aren't to affective with games like Pokemon and Megaman BN since.....you NEED a save file to play the post game....meaning, after you complete these games, you have bonus features afterwards. You can't play the post game unless you have a clear file

Well... I'm aware of the save problem but at the moment, only Megaman Battle Network 4+ (not 4.5), Megaman Zero 4 and Tales of the World 3 and probably a few others have the save problems. All Pokemon games work fine.

Summon Night 2 auto-corrupts it's save file. Tales of The World 3 saves just fine if you SRAM patch it with the gbata tool. MMBN5&6 doesn't save. You need the clear data to play the post game...so you can't play it if your using the Savestates.

And most games' post-game experience is only a little bit extra, it's not even 1/10 of the whole game, except for Megaman Battle Network case but... why do you have to be so critical about that? Beat the game first before attempting to save... gosh...

I've beaten the game, now I wan't the post-game experience. I wouldn't have brought it up if it wasn't important...and post games ARE important.
Even though the post-game isn't the entire game experience, it's still part of the game. There are many games that have extra playing hours based off just the post game. I'm not causing a ruckess or something but this should be tooken into consideration in your future homebrew endeavors. Idk why some game don't create sav files, not even the VBA create sav files for some of them.

hey i was playing golden sun the other day and got through a fair share of the game without problems, but i accidently deleted my save and i had to start over. ok here is the prob: when i started a new game at random points when the screen faded to black it made loud noises and i couldnt keep playing. i dont know if this has happend to any one but i was wondering if its a bug or something, i did get farther once without any prob. so any one have any ideas of whats wrong.

Oh, Wow. After hours of trying to get the VBA to make a save file compatible with Gpsp, I finally found the problem that prevented it. The reason why gpsp files are "sometimes" unreadable by the VBA is because you HAVE use the BIOS file that you use with the gpsp. Load the BIOS file to the VBA and your gpsp saves are now readable by the VBA. Some roms require the VBA save setting to be on Flash ans 64k flash as well..If your rom file can be SRAM patched, I suggest you do so as well, use the gbata tool.
I've also made a MMBN6 save file by doing this

Lufia III The Ruins of Lore (U) works great, only problem is in the menu there are some distorted letters and stuff. Anyone playing Lufia and not getting this problem? I'm useing the correct bios, I'll try to see if it runs better with the crappy bios.

All Yu-gi-oh! games work for the last time... get the right BIOS please...
And please be patient with the save problem, also, they are already fixed in the previously mentioned games. (Or at least most of them) *cough* Didn't want to reveal that but at this rate, I'm afraid someone will tear Exo apart just because games don't save. Also, some games need save patches/fixes.Current status: testing random games.

You're talking to me as if I deliberately decided to make some games not save.
Zitat von Mario Famous
I should take this into account when I do homebrew right? What are you saying exactly, "next time don't include bugs in your homebrew"? I spend several hours almost every day debugging gpSP.
All I'm saying is that you, and other people, have been talking as if games are completely unplayable because you can't do the bonus material.
And it's ridiculous.

******** do not listen to the people complaining, or whatever they wanna call it, simply put ******** puts his own time into coding for the gpsp doesnt get paid for it whatsoever. You dont want to see this project dropped because people are complaining or sounding like they are complaining do you? This is probably one of the best emulators in recent time for the psp. Give ******** and whoever else is helping him with the project the respect he/they deserve. Im sure he is aware of these issues and is working very hard to fix these for his next release. Be patient there's only so much you can do in a day remember these guys have lives too

Hmmm, I see people are butting in when this IS a A and B conversation...Like I said in my post, I'm not complaining that some games don't save, I'm just stating that it should be looked into more....I hope nobody becomes a smart-ass and say"Why don't you do it yourself?", if I could I would.
I know your trying your best to perfect this emulator, I'm just pointing things out that you should take into consideration...thats all.
I don't see any complaining in just saying that.
Also, people should READ my post after because I was able to make save files with the VBA for games that dont save for the gpsp and send it to the gpsp

Mario Famous....you do realize that this is still all beta stuff. All games are already expected to not work perfectly. Take your thumb out of your ass already. You have to know that gbSP and VBA are completely different emulators.
And why in the hell would ********...or any emulator homebrew dev want to focus solely on just one game? Remember, each game is coded differently...something working in one version may not work on the next and vice versa. Changing a bug in the emu effects each game.Geändert von shortboy (10-27-2006 um 10:27 PM Uhr)

The problems like the ones you're pointing out are very well known and have been reported several times. Bringing them up over and over again is grating.
Zitat von Mario Famous
I hope you haven't been given the impression that I'm ignoring game bugs because I don't think they're a big deal. I just don't want you to give people the impression that games are completely broken because of non-fatal bugs.

I was not trying to offend anybody on my last post ex. Mario Famous, I was just stating that I didnt wanna see the project dropped because alot of
coders have dropped projects because of multiple posts on other boards this board etc. Because most coders know problems right away and work on them to make them better. Then they have people who post, IM, etc over and over the same problems.. I for one have done that before not realizing it since I just got back into Emu's and hombrew. All im saying is these guys/girls are amazing for what they are doing for the psp and we as gamers should bug them too much remember they do this because they like too, not because they have to

And in case of you have any doubts, Exo works so much on this emu that I'm afraid he may break down someday. He's ALWAYS working on the emu and he considers it his "time off". D: Well... that's that. Put some beta testing status inside my signature, also, for those that are interested. Please note... the % is how far I can get into the game without any trouble and it may or may not go up depending on my play time/beta build bugs/etc.

no matter what i do, Sword of Mana never works, i've tested 10 different roms, and got the same results
also, i tried putting the 0.7 version in my psp along with the 0.8(i named the 0.7 folder differently by changing the number), and it doesnt load up
there goes Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2 oh well

Well you won't want to hear that I can play sword of mana perfectly
Zitat von Basil Zero

To be honest you're not missing much tho :)
I have noticed that there are at least 3 different bios_rom files floating around and rom compatability (spelling) is affected by which one you use, but then this isn't really anything new!
Boktai2 would crash if you chose not to continue using the 'good bios' but change to the 'not so good bios' and it runs perfectly.
Problems with saving like you would using a gba to the cart or rom image are usually down to patches etc that may have been applied to the rom image at some stage some of these patches are emulator specific.
I have had some success patching the roms to enable saving as you'd have playing the game on the gba - I'm proud of my Summon Night 2 and Final Fantasy tactics rom with gba style saving - LOL.
At the end of the day I think the emulator is great! Anything that lets me play Riviera and FinalFantasyTactics gets my vote. (oMG and Yoshis Island! YAY!)
Has anyone noticed how the blue screen error mentions an .elf file? Well everynow and again after using the emulator I get a mysterious file with the .elf extension and its always picked up as a problem file if I run a scandisk from the PC? ( I don't pretend to know what I am talking about!)
Least I think it was .elf
Anyway GREAT! work with the emulator - try an avoid a breakdown!Geändert von scoobygba (10-28-2006 um 01:12 PM Uhr)
