Minish Cap Crashing.
In the Temple of Droplets, for some reason it keeps crashing when I fight the boss. No real reason and it does it at different times. I'll delete the config file to double check but I was wondering if anyone else had that problem.
Another thing, it seems whenever I use save state, I lose my actual gamesave? Any workaround?

That's been happening since 0.7...not sure about the previous versions. It's cause you keep the torch thing lit. Just turn it on to burn the bosses tail and switch off when you know it's burning to a different weapon and put it back when needed.

hello shortboy have you already finished the minish cap with gpsp? did you already past the cloud tops where the last element is.cause gpsp .08 hangs when i'm going already to the cloud tops thats before the wall climb then it hangs.its like in the boss fight.but what i did like you said.and it really works.
and why isn't there a game config for the minish cap on the game_config.txt. do you happen to know what it is so i can copy paste it.many thanks in advance.

I haven't finished the game, but I already got past the cloud boss and already have the last element...but I did that while I was still on 0.7. I'm just doing all the side stuff such as the keystone crap.

I am having the same problem with 0.8 trying to get the last element. Every time I climb to the top of veil falls and start to walk left the PSP crashes. I can't go back to 0.7 because somehow my official save seems to have been deleted. The only thing I can load is my save state :-( Anyone have a work around, or having the same problem on 0.8?

This problem is known and there's no workaround (that I know of) in 0.8, so you'll have to wait for another version. (oh, and I don't think it'll work past that part in 0.7 either)
If you can load the save state can't you save again?

Thanks for the info, I'll put it on hold until 0.9 hopefully :-)
I can save again, but it still does not show up to load when I first start the game.

I also had the same problem. I guess I'll wait for 0.9, I waited all this time for a full speed emulator, I doubt you'll hear much *****ing from me.
Zitat von ********
However I am curious as to why the SaveState problem exist and if it's present in only Minish Cap or any others.
Thanks for the great Emu. From the ground up is really the only way to go.

Thing is...i thought it woulda been better if he first focused on compatability and technical issues surrounding that intsead of performance....his first release was good enough speed wise...

Well, compatibility has gone up since we're now able to emulate 32mb roms, it's just having a emu where everything's been corrected. In due time, I'm pretty sure ******** can cook up something awesome.
And you can get past the cloud boss in 0.7. I've done it already.Firmware History/List of UMD Games/Movies/Etc. Updated 4/14/09

Sorry, but that's not how it works. In this case acceptable speed was only possible with the right foundational code, start with a bad base and you won't get anywhere. I've worked on compatability a LOT more than I've worked on speed though. I've spent far more time debugging games than anything else in the entire time I've been developing gpSP. Look at the changelog for 0.7, it is almost entirely compatability related. 0.8 is mostly features, although 32MB ROM support can be considered compatability too. Features like savestates are vital in aiding debugging and are a kind of compatability hack.. that aside, people kept asking for them so I added them (especially since someone else was working on it independantly of my releases, which put a lot of additional pressure on me). There was a big speed improvement in 0.8, but it came serendipitously and didn't actually represent any real amount of work. Most of the speed improvements since 0.5 have been of this nature, or have come due to other things.
Zitat von The_Kills
The thing that I've noticed (and a friend of mine pointed out something like this) is that when it comes to emulators on PSP, people view compatability as a more important accomplishment than performance. What I mean is that if someone were to release a highly compatible emulator people would be thrilled with it no matter what the speed was because it'd be their assumption that any emulator's speed will gradually improve in time. But this basically isn't the case, look at PSPVBA - despite the rather esoteric things Zx-81 was doing he basically hit his limit with it, and even though compatability was pretty high the overall gaming experience was greatly diminished, to the point where far fewer people really wanted to play anything in it (or at least I didn't), and it was never going to get much better than this. On the other hand, if speed is ironed out first then it's USUALLY the case that compatability can at least be improved. I doubt every GBA game ever made has the potential to run in gpSP, but probably over 90% of them can. It's just a more complex ordeal overall that has its own specific challenges, and some things can be more difficult to debug with it than with other emulators, especially when on PSP.

Are you using 0.7 as well?
Zitat von Yomoska
-= Double Post =-
I actually had a backup of my save from right when I switched from 0.7 to 0.8. I loaded up that save in 0.8 and it worked fine. I then loaded my save state and tried to resave. Again my official save dissapeared. I checked the directory to see if any file was even there. There is actually a save file there, but it is 8 kb instead of the usual 32 kb.

Hope this makes sense, just hoping maybe this helps with future releases. Let me know if you need any more info.Geändert von collindv (10-13-2006 um 06:48 AM Uhr) Grund: Automerged Doublepost

If so that's just luck, that it didn't crash there (different layout of the binary). I know what it's doing and it wasn't being handled correctly in 0.7 either.

Same problem exist in 0.7 but you CAN get past the Giant Goron, he just gets corrupted (Mosiac looking garble) while you walk past him, but you CAN get past him.

Zelda has some weird coding, what could be considered game bugs that GBA doesn't mind.

I used v.07 and beat the whole game in zelda minish cap. Only problem I had was with the boss in the water temple(droplets) yet that was easy to bypass. I didnt have any problems with anything else. Maybe try a new rom?

Begining the game from the begining is a knife in the heart...I can`t play it again from the start! Is there any savestate after the Giant goron available?
At 0.7 you can`t save, am I right?
I hope that in the new version I will be able to continue from here!
Thanks for the direction Steven!

I don't know about SSkorpionSS, but 0.8 deleted my in-game saves :-( All I have left are my savestates.
