ISO discussion
post your opinion on ISOs and whether they are good bad or ugly.
my opinion:Very hard to answer. Sony dont like 'brew cuz of them, so bad. They are kinda ccheap, buying one disk and then selling it off again but cheaper and multiple times-a kinda scammers paradise. They pose faster load limits, so perhaps Sony should have made that a selling point and making signed ISOs downloadable off the internet, but still paying full price. Would even save THEM money!
Overall opinion:Ugly/bad, definitely NOT good

I actually think this thread is allowed, as long as you dont discuss how to get/use isos. There is nothing wrong with simply discussing their effects or legality.
(I'm not a mod and i dont know, so dont trust me)

You are allowed to talk about ISO's. Just not about where to get them or how to get them to work. Its not going to make your head-spin and you bleed from the ears or anything.
BTW, my opinion is I don't give a ****.

Thats true. You are allowed to discuss them if you stear well clear of where to get them and how to run them.
Zitat von FLai
My opinion on them is they are fine. The percentage of playstation owners that actually use them is fairly small. We only see the ones that know about homebrew on here. most users dont have a clue. So if sony is really worried about this small percentage then they are worrying about the wrong things. They should be worried about the PS3 launch, the PSP failing and Microsoft/Nintendo taking the top spot in the next gen console wars.

They should be worrying more about how they are going to deal with losing alot of money on the PS3. The PS3 is going to fail and thats it. They shouldn't be so hung up on piracy. Every console has had piracy and got through it. The PSP will be no different. Its the fact that the games are crap for the PSP that is going to make it fail, not the fact that a small percentage of people use ISO's. They are even going after Lik-Sang for PSP imports and saying that anyone who imports a PSP is breaking the law. WHAT?! My PSP is imported from Japan. No other company has went after import companies because the money still goes to them in the end. Sony just like to monopolize the market. They have got to get their priorities straight and worry alot more about the PS3 rather than a few stupid imported PSP's.

Zitat von xmex
It also let´s you try if the game sucks or not, tested hundreds but i have few UMD´s.

I like ISO's mainly because I like roms which is what iso's basically are. Sony wants poeple to buy there games then they should make games worth buying. I have no problem spending $40 on a good game unfortunately the psp doesnt have any imo. Psp has alot of decent games but decent games arent worth $40 imo nor are ports.

I agree, seeing as how many family members of mine bought a psp. When I chat to them about using homebrew and wether they have version 1.5 etc etc, they're all like ''...firmware?'' .......... ''...homebrew?''. So yeah.. only a tiny little percentage knows about all the stuff you can do with it. ''You got FW 1.5??? Hahaha I already got 2.71!!'' *geez*

my opinion is they dont cost anything :) but they do make the homebrew scene look bad because thats all sony thinks we do
the load times are much faster but it prevents compinies to go further and they feel there effort was wasted and drop the system (unless it is make a very good profit) and the system then becomes a dead system
overall opinion: i cant say bad because that would make me a hypocrite but not good for extenuating reasons beyond me using them**********, ********** :p

Not a good post dude it's going to get deleted...
And people *should* know by now that the internet is NOT a good place to get realistic representations on anything. Not even 5% on PSP owners would use ISO's or be capable of running them.

Sony has a hell of a lot more to worry about than ISOs right now.
Their stock is falling like a brick due to the recent earnings revisions (from $160 billion to $50 billion at a loss rate of 62%), issues with PS3 production, not enough PS3s at launch, the exploding battery fiasco and subsequent recall, and slow sales of the PSP and games.
Trust me, right now piracy of PSP/PS2 games is at the bottom of their list in the category of "we gives a damn".

I think downloading them is bad. But using them if they are legal is just fine.

Reasons I love ISO's:
1) No wear on UMD drive
2) ISO's can be altered to bypass firmware updates- there was a way before DevHook, you know! Even if firmwares aren't made compatible wtih DevHook, I've always got a way.
3) Fast, fast loading times
4) Easier to carry my 4 gig full of ISO's than 8-12 UMD's

Downloading them is just plain illegal even if you own a copy...
But I don't understand why people just keep on saying ISOs are better than UMDs. ISOs are just free to download, they don't load any faster at all. In fact, Midnight Club 3 UMD loaded in 17 seconds for me while the ISO version of it took 25 seconds to load (excluding the devhook time). Also, ISOs are ripped off of all of the goodies... (most games are at least). It's still better to use UMDs anyhow.Current status: testing random games.

Purely circumstantial. I question your loading time measurements. Also, it may have been highly compressed. Goodies being ripped out are on a case by case basis, and this is not a problem if you rip your own.
Zitat von RunawayPrisoner
Plus, you don't have to carry 15 UMD's with you at once. Don't you like the idea of consolidation?

They were not compressed. I just have a Sony memstick. On the Sandisk memstick, ISOs load about 1 or 2 seconds faster but that's it. :P And when I said ISO version, I meant ISO, not CISO or DAX. And the goodies being ripped out happen almost all the time with ISOs downloaded from the net. Also, if you know how to compress Splinter Cell - Essentials and Midnight Club 3 - DUB Edition full ISOs to fit into a 1G memstick (Sandisk now. :P) then I'd really love to know. (PM please... or the thread will be closed.) Seriously, I use ISOs from my UMDs, too, but I still think that using ISOs are not supposed to be. My memory stick should be for other goodies like... emulators and/or music and/or videos.
Current status: testing random games.

Technically, there is no such thing as a legal UMD ISO.

And that's why we close ISO threads. No matter how civil a conversation can be going on, someone always asks for help.
