I thought that iso talk was not allowed but there are multiple thread regarding them. Yah, I am being a smart ass but I just wanted to post this because I just saw a thread get closed because of talking about a FFVII iso. So are we not allowed to talk about psx isos either?
You know, there policy has made no sense for a LONG time. They consider PSX as ROM's, but if you call them ISO's it gets closed but if you call them ROM's its fine..
And ROM's are just as illegal as ISO's anyways...meh.
But psx games are isos. Isos are disc images and I am pretty sure that the ps1 did not use cartridges.
There's always legality issues with this stuff, and this thread has been brought up before... Always gets locked, it's really not worth bothering.Zitat:

Talking about how to get these to run however, or where to find them is a completely different story.

ANY TIME I mention ISO, it gets locked. Why? Even if it's not about how to run them. The mods can't even get this straight!
And an ISO is NOT a direct image (the PSP ones). The file you get when you use fastloader is legal, turning it into an ISO isn't.
Does it really matter? This forum is a privilege. They Administrators and Moderators can do whatever the want with it, because they're either supporting the website, or appointed to uphold the rules.Zitat:

He's asking how to run them which isn't allowed. Mentioning that you have an ISO or you have managed to get one running is fine. I can't vouch for what other moderators see as allowed/not allowed. As many of you say we are "hypocrits" the rules can be interpreted differently or be more strictly enforced by different mods.Zitat:

At the end of the day the moderators decision is final, ISOs are a questionable topic, we can change the rules to completely eradicate all talk of them but then that will mean no more Devhook/SE-B/SE-C talk and troubleshooting. As a leading PSP site we need to be able to keep as many subjects of discussion open as possible without getting into trouble with Sony or any authorities. That means we wont help troubleshoot/help you obtain ISOs, gameboots, roms or anything else of that nature.
I will leave this thread open for discussion but if it turns the way of every other thread of this nature (going in circles, repeating the same thing over and over) then I'll close it in a heartbeat.
at least you are leaving it open, thats a good thing. Anyway if people are really in need of some proper ISO talk then they could just go somewhere else. This ain't the only forum on the net. Plus most questions that are asked are fairly simple to solve and the TC could do it themselves with a little research, some people are just lazy.

Thats what thread I am talking about. Are we not allowed to tell him to simply put it in his folder with the bios. Because roms are allowed to be helped with. But we are allowed to help him if he had trouble with roms? I do also understand the policy and how some mods are "loose constructionists" and some are strict constuctionists, but I just feel as is some threads get closed without a legit reason.Zitat:

thats what the mod(sorry cant remember name) was talking about the rule aint specific and can eb differently interupted (spelling?) put asking how to load isos from ps1 emulator should be allowed has it is with snes etc, but then again devhook is a firmware emulator so that would mean we can talk about them too hmmm
tthe rule should be like the top of this forum "dont post link to roms/iso" then we can talk about them etc without getting banned etc
yesterday in the us they passed that thing i think that any obsolete system and games can be archived so that makes roms legal and ps1 isos legal since sony abandoned the ps1 early this year or late late last year. heres a snippet><> Computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and that require the original media or hardware as a condition of access, when circumvention is accomplished for the purpose of preservation or archival reproduction of published digital works by a library or archive. that means it legal to talk about ps1 isos then but not psp sony will stop supporting it soone though...its failing

Unfortunately that line I've bolded is the stitcher. With the wii's Virtual Console selling old games, XBL Market Place selling old games and the PS3 selling PS1 games it still makes them copyrighted material hence illegal. And the rules still stay the same. I'm almost certain the big 3 saw this coming and that's why they have done this so they can continue to come down hard on Roms and ISOs being distributed. It doesn't matter what they are for. Its the fact that they are available that makes them not obselete. If sony were not doing the PS1 emu on PSP then by all means they would be obselete. For now and the foreseeable life of the PS3 and PSP, PS1 games will be subject to copyright laws, as SNES, NES, and whatever else the VC plays will be copyright of their respective owners, and the games xbl arcade will be copyright of their respective owners. The thing passed in the US states if the software is still reasonably available then they are not obselete. I'd say being for sale globally is more than reasonably available.Zitat:
