Default Zelda OOT

Zelda would be VERY playable.

I surprised myself to see how good it was running.
but I think it would acutally be awesome to run in speed hack.

I've read tutorials before on how to speed hack SNES ROMs, but I've not found any that show how to speed hack N64 ROMs.

I know it is possible though, as Super Mario 64 speed hacked ROMs exist.

This is news to me, I've never heard of pre-speed hacked ROMs. I'm gonna go look into this, thanks for making me aware

The only one I have found is Super Mario 64. If you come across any more, please alert all of us here.

How well does the SM64 hacked ROM run on Daedalus R8?

Cool

it helps some, but not perfect
Maybe I have a bad speedhacked one? Someone mentioned "well thers a few Mario 64 speedhacked ones"

BTW: is 30fps fullspeed on n64?
I got that at one small point in SM64 and it seemed great

I've only seen one speed hacked one.

I think any more FPS past 30 only increases visual looks and not the actual running speed of the ROM.

In many 3d consoles games run at fullspeed at around 30fps.

The N64 itself runs at 60FPS but 30FPS will be full speed, the extra 30 is just for performance.

BTW, speed hacked Super Mario 64 gets average of about 25-35 FPS on latest official daedalus.

Ill let you guys know if i come accross an OOT speed hacked rom.

Daedalus Shifty runs Zelda slightly faster but has more graphical problems. And Super Mario 64 ran up to 24FPS. Which was awesome.

If only StrmnNrmn would show himself again, heh.

He's gone MIA on us lately. Must be taking a hiatus.

Shifty is worth checking out. I was running a non-speed hacked Super Mario 64 rom too.

I heard at some point they'd be using a media engine like SNES9xTYL did to emulate the sound, so that it wouldn't take off performance from the emulator.

This is what shifty said in reply to his article on QJ,
after getting so flamed

Quote:
WAIT JUST A MINUTE!!!
I have worked basically every minute I got in order to think of an idea, that half of u ppl wouldn't understant
d. It is in the middle fo the school year, I am still in high school, and don't have access to a computer everywhere i go, especially one where it can be compiled for testing

Now, a little info, for all of you ppl who think that all I did was rip Wally and StrmnNrmn.

1) It has not been completed enough to actually be judged. This was just a quick build, to test whether or not it could actually be used with one of my new ideas.

2)My new idea was to not play around with the framerate of the actual emulator, but only with the actual roms.

3)My intended way of doing so, was to create a nice small, compact function, that would be called to load the entire rom into memory, dynamically edit the rom upon loading to basically say, 'go faster', run this through the entire rom, unload the rom, except for the part that was changed, then resume with the actual emulation. This function is only to be called once, after you choose which rom to load. In the end, this would not save and modifications made to the actual rom upon loading.

4) I am sorry that I had failed to explain this to funkman.

5) Now just to let you know, I have changed a rom(SuperMario64) in a rom modifier, and booted it up on good ol' Daedalus Wally to test it. It worked, it had a smoother, faster moving feel to the game, running at what looks to be "almost full speed", ALTHOUGH THE ACTUAL FRAMERATE MY NOT CHANGE
Now you may be thinking that this is similar to frameskip, but in fact it isn't. It is somewhat hard to understand the logic of how the human eye may see somthing one way, then they see it another way.

6)All I have done with the unoffical release that was given to funkman, was insert a function in the file 'daedalusSourceInterfaceR omDB
that is called upon loading a rom

7)Once again, I am sorry. This was just a one day thing so far, so when I get my dynamic rom speed modifier working for daedalus, you can probably expect to see what funkman had originally said, that I will get it to run at full speed.

If I have time I might work on some sort of interface so ppl can play around with a few of the settings.

Currently i am working on the rom modifyer, so expect some major speed increase within the next month or so. Until then

EMAIL ME, don't include hate mail, i alread read enough of that here.
