This how-to will show mac users how to set up their macs to function as access points so that the wii will connect to their computer and use the modified hosts file to browse the internet.
Step 1: Enable Internet sharing
Go into your system preferences pane, and then select the sharing icon.
Go into the internet Tab, you are going to want to share your internet from: Built in Ethernet (or other source) and you are going to want to share it with other computers using Airport.
Give your new AP a name (and WEP if you would like). And then turn on internet sharing.
Step 2: Modify hosts file
Go into terminal
type: CD /etc
then type: sudo pico hosts
it should ask you for the admin password, enter it and your hosts file should open up in pico.
The file should look like
Change this to
18.104.22.168 is the address for google.com, you can change this address to any website you want (even qj.net if you please) but do not change the oss.shop.wii.com. The hosts file tells your wii and mac that whenever you try to go to oss.shop.wii.com it needs to bring you to 22.214.171.124 . Once you did that, hit control O to save changes, when it asks you for a filename, it should have hosts already there as default, just hit enter and over write it. If you get a file permission error you have to make sure that you have admin rights and typed sudo pico hosts, not just pico hosts.
Start up your wii and make it connect to your mac's Access Point, then start up the wii shop and it should bring you to google (or whatever page you changed the host file to include)
