Wow, so I bought Red Steel when I first got my Wii the other day, but chose not to open it because my friends and reviews online kept saying how bad the gameplay is, and how clunky the controls are, etc. etc. etc. To say the least, my view of the game was very negative.
So with my wrapped up Red Steel collecting dust I proceeded to play through and beat Call of Duty 3 (another awesome game btw) after mastering the control system on there. Fairly easy game, but I have always liked the CoD series.
Finally, my friend brings over his opened Red Steel (I'll probably just return mine now  ) and I start playing it just to see if it really is as bad as the reviews and my friends say, and I gotta admit, I was not only having HELLA fun playing, I was totally engulfed in the game. I was almost INSULTED that so many people would give this game such bad reviews!
The soundtrack is spot on, of course that was never an issue in reviews. The gameplay, although I agree could be better and maybe even less linear, but my overall experience was GREAT! I actually had very little qualms about the controls (save for my Wiimote running out of battery!). I don't know if it's BECAUSE I played CoD3 first and got used to aiming with the wiimote or what, but I really didn't have too much trouble navigating around and raising general havoc all over LA. Using the sword was pretty fun too, despite the general opinion of the sword combat being clunky.
Anyways, I just had to let this all out and see if anyone else out there agrees, because I really feel like Red Steel is being bashed for what I feel is a great game. I think that the developers took a chance with this one, and maybe they didn't hit the target spot on, but it definitely gets close. Red Steel is a good game, give it a try!
