Wii Freeloader: Anyone get it to work?
Has anyone else taken the plunge and gotten the new Wii freeloader from Datel? I love how they make no mention on the product page that updates might disable it (even though we all know the risk especially because of what happened with the GC freeloader for Wii), but then when you get it, there's caution labels ALL OVER THE THING.
Anyway, it finally came in today and, of course, the damn thing won't load Naruto EX 1. It'll load the disc initially and let you "start" the game from the disc channel, but after that it just goes to a black screen.
Oh well. Anyone else have any luck? I guess I'll try the alternate method they mentioned for games that require updates and see if it'll at least load GC games since I thought it was supposed to.
EDIT: Well, it successfully loaded Naruto GNT 4 (Cube), but still didn't load Naruto EX (Wii) using either method.
EDIT EDIT: After some more looking around, it seems that the first one doesn't work (it'd be nice if Datel would list such incompatibilites on their site beforehand (but I guess that might cost them money). Kinda like how on the sheet that comes with the Wii FL, it says to check the FAQ on their site before updating your FW from any imported games. If you go to the FAQ, there's nothing there. Perhaps there aren't any Japanese games that require an update ATM? Maybe the FAQ on the EU site has something, I haven't checked since that likely won't apply to us in the States.
Regardless, this still sucks. I was on the fence about ordering Naruto EX 2 and was going to see if the one I had alreayd worked with the FL, but since it doesn't I'm not sure I want to spend another $65 on a game that may or may not work when it gets here. I'll most likely end up getting an imported Wii at some point, but don't have the cash at the moment.
For those who missed it or may be on the fence about buying one of these, you might consider reading through my old post regarding VERY poor customer service from Datel. I assume I'll get close to the same treatment if I contact them regarding this. Just because their site looks nicer doesn't mean their support is :P As an update to that, I ultimate did get a response via email when I wrote them yet again asking why they never responded to emails and didn't answer or return phone calls. Eventually, I did get the correct region AR...just in time for Nintendo to block the thing with a FW update. So that was money wasted and a lot of time and hassle for absolutely nothing.
