Well their E3 Press Conference has come and gone and there's no mention of online features. I think Nintendo really needs to step up their game and do more online wise. Here's my thoughts.
1. Demos and Trailers on Wii Shop Channel: Why is this not possible? Demos could be stored to the internal memory or to an SD card. Do to the limited memory, only a few demos would be able to played on the system at a time. USB Hard Drive support could always be added or an internal HDD added to allow for more space for downloading. Trailers shouldn't take up as much space and should be able to be downloaded or streamed. Both Sony and Nintendo do this and it's a big plus to be able to get exclusive E3 online content on their systems.
2. USB Device Support: The USB ports are there on the system, but we can't do anything with them. Why not add support for USB keyboards or mice to be used with the web browser? Sometimes the Wii is closer, so it's simpler just to use it to surf the web. It would be a lot easier if a keyboard could be used to type on.
3. More features for friends: We can add friends on the Wii. That's exciting, too bad there's nothing we can do with them. Send them Miis and send them messages? I'm kind of wishing for a bit more. Let us see what they are doing and when they are active online. The Wii is always online, but it shouldn't be that hard to detect if they are playing a game, in a channel, in the menu, etc. If a headset does come out for the Wii, allow us to send voice messages to our friends. Another thing that is disappointing, is that we can't receive messages in game, or check our friends list(not like that would do us any good currently though).
4. More Channels/Updates: The Mii Popularity Channel was originally slated for release in April in Japan. No channel yet. We did get mention of it today though, but still no release date, just a name change. We need more channels to come from Nintendo. The channels started off being added quick, but now are having many months in between. The channels we have now are kind of dry and boring and lose their appeal quickly. With Sony cranking out updates, and even Microsoft added nice features twice a year, it would be nice to see more coming from Nintendo.
Well those are my personal thoughts, on Nintendo and their online. Anyone want to add anything? Discuss?
