Executive Operating Officer of the United States division of Nintendo, Reggie Fils-Aime, said that the new Nintendo’s Wii U console will be released later than April, in 2012.
This is the fifth generation of consoles for Nintendo, but the company wants to wait until the new device will be ready, as performances, to compete with Xbox's Xbox Live and PlayStation's PSN and this is why the launching date is so far.
In an interview for Forbes, Reggie Fils-Aime said that the company needs to focus more on their online presence because of the hard competition. This is why the fans have now the online shop for Nintendo 3DS and this won’t be the end of the online development of Nintendo.
Fils-Aime announced that the fifth generation of Wii U console will be a different one, that will have better and easy functioning features and it will be designed for a large target. More, Fils-Aime promise the Nintendo fans a „robust” experience with the device that will be on their hand at the middle of 2012.
On the graphic chapter, it appears that the new Wii U console will not be very different that the previous versions, because they want to focus more on the game experience than the graphic that is not very important when the experience is high quality.
Although the company knows that the design is very important for the first impact on the console, Fils-Aime thinks that the users that are already used with their services and strategy will look forward at the next level of performances and less at the design.
This way of thinking and marketing their products came from the feed-back of Wii and the costumer’s opinion of the motion controlled experience rather that graphic itself, in which she admitted that Sony competitor might have a strong point of view.
Speaking of the long term plans, Fils-Aime said that they are prepared to let any old product on the market as long as the request exists, referring to the console’s older generation.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has to get things straight with Tomita Technologies that sued the company over a patent on 3DS that was very welcomed and appreciated as one of the most interesting portable console.
Tomita Technologies, told with details precision the technology used by 3DS, under the name Stereoscopic Image Picking Up and Display System Based Upon Optical Axes Cross-Point Information and this appears to be their patent and not Nintendo’s.
