Talking Future Xbox360 owner

hi qj users
this is my first post here at qj xbox360's zone
so, i have some questions about the 360 (noob questions)
i'm going to purchase a new xbox360 from a local shop (fnac)
the package includes [xbox360 premium, Winning 11 2007(PES6) and GoW]
and it costs 399.99 euros
do you guys think is a good deal?
i was also reading some threads about the xbox360 performace/hardware and that scared me a lot, "one of the worst built machines ever", (that sucks), so current users, do you think it worth to have, with all those damn problems, im also worried about the warranty, they gave me only 2 year warranty, what if the 360 broke?
too many pros and cons.
one more question, when i aquire the premium pack, how will i update my 360?
and install the emulator to run xbox(1st) games.
tnks in advance for your help
and sorry for the noobish questions

I would say that's a good deal, considering that both GoW and Winning Eleven are great games. You wont be disapointed.

The hardware isn't the greatest. The 2 year warrenty is great, but if I were you I'd even look into how much a 5 year warrenty costs.
too many pros and cons.

The Xbox will do this automatically when you connect to Xbox Live, you will get the latest dashboard update.

When you go to play an Xbox 1 game it will tell you an update is availalbe, and then update.

As for the 2 year warranty, that will be fine. Just make sure your 360 breaks after they install the newer chips in the 360s. You can 'accidentally' break your 360, bring it in for a new one and you would have a stable system

You do know the Xbox 360 has a 33% chance of malfunctioning. 1 in every 3 systems. Man better get that warranty

How is that not proof, yet your article is? That's just some speculation from people that work at best buy.

ive never had any problems with mine and ive had it since launch. there worst built system thread was a shot by a sony fanboy to make xbox look bad. 360's are great there the best system out right now and will be til next gen imo. plus your picking a good time to get one sooooo many good games coming out this summer.....and have u considered getting the elite? it is superior and the same price still i belivei would rather have elite over mine. <---just a thought...good luck you will love it!

The failure rate nearing a third of all Xbox 360 consoles was found at other retailers too. A Best Buy customer service department manager, who wished to remain unnamed, said that failure rates for the console were “between a quarter to a third” of all units sold.

“We see a ton of [Xbox 360s] come back all the time. We strongly push our customers to buy our service plans no matter what they buy, but it is especially important for them with the Xbox 360,” said the manager. “It’s a lucky thing for us that Microsoft extended the factory warranty to one year, because we were having a hell of a time dealing with the launch units. Now we don’t have to deal with those broken [Xbox 360s] until their second year, for those who have purchased the two year plans.”

It clearly states that A Best Buy manager states these outcomes and explains his statement and what not.
Even Microsofts Peter Moore, VP of Microsoft’s entertainment division couldnt speculate why the system were failing so much giving the dodgy statement that people should take more care of their systems sounds mighty fishy to me.

I don't see anywhere that it says Microsoft has had 4 Million Consoles returned. This still isn't proof. Proof will be when Microsoft gives out it's failure rates. Do you seriously believe 4 Million consoles have died and been returned worldwide?

Its an estimate it doesn't necessarily pertain to every system common thats impossible. This man Currently has broken 11 Xbox 360 consoles and adds his comments on what he thinks of the 360 with AUDIO Customer Support So verify his statement.

Well, I believe there is a very big problem. I am still holding off on getting one and have been for the last year. I bet the failure rate is somewhere at 33%, which would almost warrant a recall. There is a thread regarding this issue here and that is just the people that posted in that thread, the people that didn't post and the people that don't use forums still need to be factored in to get a more exact number. According to that thread the failure rate is at 25%, that's just that forum.

Microsoft needs to address this issue and let the consumer know what they're doing to do to change things. They at least need to give us that.

If so many consoles had failed wouldn't the shipping numbers be much higher?

@user friendly

You have the money obviously, so buy a 360 + 2-3 year warranty and then exchange your 360 in a year or so after the hardware is more reliable, and you're all good.

Oh I agree. Microsoft ****ed up in that aspect, and I think it's the 360's biggest pitfall. Apparently this problem should be rarer now, because of the heatsinks that are coming shipped on the newer models.

I just want to not have to worry about it. Even if/when they improve the hardware I'll still buy a warranty. I dont want to swap it if I dont have to and I will need a reason to swap it back unless I in fact got the RROD.

Well at GAF alone it's @ 25%, your'e probably right since there is more people in the world that dont post in forums and the % would be lower but no mater how you look at it, it's pretty widespread on the internet and we still dont know because MS hasn't even addressed the issue.

Some stores dont exchange 360's with RROD, you now have to go through MS. I've just heard too much that makes me fear buying it.

They updated the post which now stands at 687 dead consoles from 512 seperate users. I could see me getting it and be the unlucky guy that has to go through 3 systems.

I could see me getting it and be the unlucky guy that has to go through 3 systems.
thats the 1st time any1 has ever said that to me....ever...about anything....*sheds a tear*

But then when they release an improved SKU with a super quiet fan and drive then I'll be wishing that I waited. Just because I have the warranty doesn't mean I'll be able to exchange it because I want the new one. If I bought the warranty it would probably work perfectly.

Well, you're probably closer but how do we know, threads like the one I listed are the only valid examples of the failure rates. Until MS release these figures, we're both right.

and have u considered getting the elite?
i don't think so, they didn't arrived yet
this is Europe, here we get all the nouvelties pretty late
it sucks, but we get used to it.

altough i have another question
i do plan to connect my 360 to live
but don't know how
i have router, but the i don't think the xbox has an inbuilt wireless connector
so, i must buy it separately or it comes with premium package?
and when i enter live for first time, do i need to fill spaces with credit card number and other related things?
tnks for your replies, but don't turn this into a "failure rate thread"
i already saw it

You can do it wired, using an ethernet cable, or wireless, if you buy the wireless adaptor. And yes you will need to fill in spaces. I suggest using a USB Keyboard for this.

According to this site (http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=7892), retailers report a failure rate of 33%.
