Is it possible to use an external hard drive on the 360 through the USB port?

I need a hard drive, but the 360 ones are so expensive for what you get. I mean, I could get an external hard drive with 8x as much memory as the 360 for the same price.

You can, but you cannot use them for saves or DLC. Just music and images, etc.

In other words, get an official HDD.
