This is a discussion on 360 + PC Monitor.. within the Xbox 360 Capabilities forums, part of the Xbox 360 Main category; Yes, but I was told that HDMI is better plus I'd have to keep taking the VGA cable out to ...

Its possible if you cut off the casing from the HDMI cable. Then you can fit both together.
Otherwise the only way is to split the audio and video from the HDMI cable alone. Most AV receivers will accept HDMI input and decode the audio and send it to an analog output, and the HDMI signal will be passed through via an output HDMI port which can be connected to a TV/monitor. There are also splitter boxes solely for the purpose of splitting the audio and video from HDMI. Such boxes will output audio via analog if its stereo, or via SPDIF for multichannel DD/DTS etc, while the video will be passed through to output HDMI. -= Double Post =- My friend has connect his PS3 using HDMI for video and analog AV for audio. The HDMI out is connected to his monitor via DVI-D, and the stereo analog output from the AV port is connected to stereo speakers. The only problem with the 360 is that the two ports are too close to each other and both cables cant be connected simultaneously. Last edited by Torch; 04-27-2008 at 11:39 AM.. If you want to use only the component cable for audio and video:
There are 2 types of component cables. One with component video and SPDIF audio for surround sound. Another with analog stereo audio. The analog audio one can be directly connected to your speakers using RCA to stereo 3.5mm female jack. The video can be connected to your monitor by using a component to vga converter box, then vga to DVI-A.

![]() So, is that right so far? What else do I need? Just to recap: I am trying to get an Xbox 360 to play on a PC monitor. The monitor has a DVI-D slot and I am planning on buying a DVI to HDMI cable so that the video on the 360 will work. I then need to find a way to get my 2.1 Logitech speakers & subwoofer to work with the 360 so that the picture will be displayed on the monitor and the sound will be coming from my speakers. Sorta like the way my PC is set up, but will a 360 instead of a tower. |

One of these to hook the 3.5mm jack now coming from the 360 to the cable coming from your speakershttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5mm-Jack-Cou...QQcmdZViewItem
And one of these to get the audio from the 360 http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3...ing2007rv3.jpg Last edited by Ciaran_; 04-28-2008 at 09:09 AM.. |

I think you get it with the official HDMI cable aswell. Then you just buy a HDMI to DVI adapter and you can use the official cable. |

Yes, adapter on the right is one of these. http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3...ing2007rv3.jpg
Then you will need one of these to use that HDMI cable with your monitor.

So I presume that I plug the speakers into one slot of that adapter on the right of that cable and the remote into the other side? Might be a hassle, but it's gonna save me like £100+ on a new HDTV. Don't know if the picture will be any better with my monitor being HDCP compliant?

HDCP doesn't make a quality difference
Sound goes from the two plugs on this: ![]() into this ![]() then using this ![]() you hook the cable into the speaker cable currently going into your PC sound card. I don't know how to make this any simplier. |

In which case all you need is the HDMI cable and the stuff in post #43.

Surprised to not see any comments on matching impedance... when I use this method to hook up my official composite or my official svideo cable to my PC speakers I get this horrible low level hum/buzz sound - but when I hook the same stuff up to the line out on an unofficial vga cable there are no issues at all.

My friends PS3 doesn't have this problem though. He's using only the video via HDMI, and has connected only the audio RCA from the official composite cable. No distortion.
