Well, I'm over my uncle's house, and he has two HDTV's (one's a 60 Inch behemoth, that I'm not allow to touch while I'm here). I'm using his (I'm guessing) 27-31 inch LG branded tv in his office. Anyway, I have some questions.

First, everything seems to be pretty jaggietastic. The Dashboard is fine, but the games are very jaggie.

What is this the fault of, the games (am I just playing games with bad/no AA), is LG just a bad brand in terms of HDTVs, or is this just how it is with the Xbox 360?

Is the screen size the culprit? That's one of my assumptions. Am I just not going to get a great HD experience on a screen this small (31 inch my guess)?

If this is just how it is, then I'm not very impressed with HD. I'd rather have the smoothness of SD. The Jaggies bug the hell out of me.

Also, I'm running on 720p right now, which is still very jaggie, but it's 10x better than 1080i (which I expected, but not for this reason).

Some explainations from the HD savvy crowd would be appreciated.

what game are you playing?, that would help out alot.

I have a 51 hdtv, plasma. No jaggies on mine

I've tried UNO, Fifa 07 Demo, and NCAA Football 07.

I haven't tried anything else yet.

Anyway, I've seen a 360 on display on a HDTV at some electronics store, and it looked amazing! :O No Jaggies

NCAA 07 is like that for me too, but i havent tried any of those other games except uno, and that was perfectly fine for me, check that on your 360 your video settings are correct

Well, I'm playing Tiger Woods golf right now... Not very jaggie (only slightly)...

I've played some other games. They're not really jaggie, but they don't look very good.

This whole experience isn't really selling me on HD. Some of the games aren't really jaggie, they just don't necessarily look better than my 37" SDTV.

Would messing around with the TV's default settings help things at all?

Keep in mind that I don't have an HDTV and am purely guessing.

dont let this turn you off to HD,

do you have HD programming and HD TV, thats the best part about HD, but most my games have no problems, it might be somethign with the TV, is your connector set to HD?, is your dashboard set to 1080i? etc?

Yeah, my uncle has HD programming, and it's all pretty good, but for how much TV I watch, HDTV has never interested me. The intertest has come in HD gaming.

I just played Lost Planet, and, while it looks good, it certainly doens't look that amazing.

Quite frankly, I'm thinking about how it looked on my TV at home, and I can't imagine paying more than $100 for this slight improvement.

Yes, all the cables are connected right, the switch on the cable is set to HD, and I actually have my Xbox set to 720p, because like I said above, 1080i is very jaggie. on 720p, the only game that has that problem is NCAA Football 07.

Well, I just played NBA 2K7 on 1080i again, and for some reason, the jaggieness is gone (which was what triggered this thread in the first place).

Still, I don't see what the fuss is about HD gaming. Certainly, it looks good. But from what I see, it's definitely not worth a large investment to get.

I wouldn't pay more than $100 for this, quite honestly.

The tv could be a older tv when HD was 480p but accepted 720p&1080i. It could just be accepting the 720p resolution and downscaling it which could be causing this effect. Also I find using a VGA to your tv gives you a much better color deepth. I think component cords kinda suck.

It could be the fact its just not a very good TV to be quite honest, even if it is HD it may not be that good.

Well that's why I asked if LG generally makes good T.V.s...

I've heard of LG, but only in the Cell Phone World. Prior to being here, I didn't know they made HDTVs.

yeah, play with the aspect ratio of the screen, if your still there. Not sure how the 360 works but see if the games youre playing have a widescreen setting or not.
