Default Question about WMC

Hi, I just bought my 360 a few days ago and I ahve loved it... except for a few things. I would like to use windows media connect, but sadly it will not work for me. I connect my 360 to my PC through the ethernet cord that microsoft supplied for my computer and I try to use WMC but it has to "test" my connection. it has to connect to the internet for some reason, and my computer is connected through wireless to a satellite connection, so if always fails the IP test. It can find my compter though. Is there any way around this so I can use windows media connect?

The IP test shouldn't be linked to the internet, the 360 is looking for a router to serve it an IP address. Set the IP address manually and you should be ok.

You should be able to use Internet Connection Sharing to get an internet connection to the 360 btw. Google it, there should be loads of tutorials around.

setting the IP adress to maual does nto help it, and using internet connection sharing does not help it.

This is how my connection is set up, and I am unable to use Xbox live like this, or for it to even assign my 360 a IP address

I can get my 360 hooked up to the internet though, like this:

Outside () <--- Satellite

------|------------------------ <--- house wall
[] <----------- DW 7000(satellite thing)
\

I can connect and assign my computer a IP address like this, but the problem is is that I cannot move my computer out to where the DW7000 is(its about 50 feet from my computer).

You need to connect your 360 into the router (via wired or wireless) for it to work like you want. That will give you internet and WMC.

Are you using a crossover cable to connect the 360 to the PC?

Satellite Internet SUCKS for xbl due to the latency. I had xbl for my xbox but gave it up because of the latency and the satellites unpredictability. I hope you have it better. And if you answered no to what Ten In 2010 asked you need one for a direct connection(with no router).

You need to hook the xbox 360 up to the wireless router via an ethernet cable or you need to buy a wireless adapter for the 360, but wireless and satellite = very bad for XBL.

Or as ten said you need to link to PC via a crossover cable and also make sure internet connection sharing is enabled on the PC wifi connection.

You will have a horrible lag on xbox live with this configuration, because:
1. Satelite internet isn't great right now.
2. Wireless is slower than ethernet.
3. Internet Connection Sharing is slower than a direct link and is affected by the speed of you pc.

Personally I'd either buy the wireless adaptor for 360 or run a straight through ethernet cable directly to the router.

Okay, it looks like if I want to use WMC I will have to buy a wireless adapter for my 360.
Thankyou everyone.
