Default Connecting a 360 to a Windows-based PC

I installed the Zune software like the 360 told me to then hooked the Ethernet cable from the Xbox 360 into the back of the PC but it can't connect.

As it stands, the only way I can get Music and what not onto my 360 is by burning it to a CD/DVD then ripping it on the 360.

What do I need to do in order for my 360 to connect? Do I need to buy something, or is it something to do with my connection settings?

One person told me that I need a USB cable not an Ethernet cable, I looked around and couldn't find a USB cable to hook up a PC to a 360.

You need a USB cable to connect. The ethernet cable is for your online connection only.

You stream music from your pc and 360 wirelessly. It seems to me from what your saying your tring to hook up a ethernet cable from your pc to your 360. Dont do that all they need to be is on the same network aka on the same internet connection. So after you installesd the software and have all that stuff done have both your pc and 360 connected to the internet(not to each other) and go to music on your 360 and hit pc and all the music you choose you want to stream will be there.

since the above use has no idea what hes talking about i'll help you.

1. ITS NOT WIRELESS UNLESS YOU HAVE A WIRELESS NETWORK AND THE ADAPTER FOR 360!

2. so need a router. theyre not too much then you connect your internet modem to your router (optional but it gives your pc and 360 internet at the same time and if you dont have internet dont worry this will still work) hook your ps up to port 1 of the router and you xbox up to port 2. then install windows media player 11. it should detect your 360 on the network then tel it to allow the 360 to connect (a window will pop up asking) then go to your 360 go to music computer then away from there. (this will also stream videos in .wmv format to the 360)

my xp home on my wireless laptop connects to my wireless router which has a ethernet cable going to my 360 (wired, not wireless) and it streams music to my 360

laptop-wirelessly to->router-wired to->360
works great

I love it when people don't the difference between a patch cable and a crossover cable.

It doesn't really matter on any modern equipment from my experience. I've set up a small temp LAN with a mix of patch and crossover cables and the switch had no problem connecting the lot.
