I just picked up sonic after getting off work tonight and I must say its a mixed bag as most Sonic games are. Sonic games are like feeling pain and happyness at the same time.
Graphics: The graphics are lush with vibrant colors everywhere and high atention to detail. In the very first stage of the game you'll feel right at home as its a complete tribute stage to Sonic Adventure 1. The water effects and lighting are simply amazing. The textures are just as good as if not better than most current 360 games. Even sonic and his buddy Tails are looking great in new high poly count models. Theres really nothing more you could ask for in visual from a sonic game. 10/10
Music: The music during the intro movies fit very well and added to the excitement of which looks to be the first Sonic game ever with a very good plot and voice acting. Nothing so far as really popped out as tunes you'll be huming years down the road like Sonic 2 music but nothings bad at all. It very average fitting music for this type of game.
Gameplay: The gameplay goes back to the adventure feel of Sonic Adventure 1. You have a town now and shop. Before each mission there will be town stuff to do before heading out on you mission(stages). I'd glad they brought this back as it felt that once it left it was the most wanted feature in every Sonic game since. The controls are where the game is gonna take a big hit. In town I was simply just walking and died getting pushed between a rail into the water. Many glitches like this happen due to the loose camera and how fast and hard Sonic is to control. In the stages the camera will lead you to many death which you couldnt help at all. Eventually you'll get use to this and it wont even effect you. Its very hard to get use to master a camera system thats fighting aganist you the whole time. Over all you're still gonna be having a blast as the games extremly fun to play more so than fustrating. 6/10
Story line & Presentation: This game looks to have a very straight forward story but, with a high production level. I couldnt help but feeling the whole time I was playing this "why didnt Sonic team put this much effort into PSU(there lastest rpg) story line and dialog". The games presentation and approach is very good and the best that i've seen in any action platformer to date. 9/10
Over all I wouldn't say the games for everyone but, if you're a Sonic fan its a can miss title of the year. I can't say its perfect but its certainly still very fun and a game that most people will be able to enjoy if they can get use to the camera angles.
Final Score: 8/10
