Firstly, this is not my 360, so any questions asked may take a bit of time to answer.
Well I was at a friends flat recently, and he mentioned his 360 was playing up. Whatever game you put in, it says "unplayable disc", when it started you could just open and close the disc tray and it would work fine, but ever since it takes more and more attempts to get a game running. It's becoming a real problem because it takes up to an hour of opening and closing the tray to get a game running now...I see this problem is quite common looking around this and other forums, but I've seen no solution yet. I've received help with my PSP here so figured I'd try.
We have already tried a lens cleaner disc, and it's definitely not a problem with the discs. I don't fancy opening it up myself...how much does it cost to get something like this fixed? It was bought a while ago...what's the MS warranty?
MS extended the warranty on 360's a while ago. It depends on what country your located in and when it was originally purchased. (It sounds like your DVD drive is shot, so it might be a quick/cheap fix.)
Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX if you are in the US to speak to someone and you can read off your serial number, etc. (Assuming the console was once registered.)
Thanks for posting, however, I live in the UK:(
I think I'll just try to find a UK number for MS, and contact them to find out if it's covered. It was bought a while ago, how old does it have to be to get the extended warranty?
I had the same problem. Lucky mine was under warranty, so I returned it to Microsoft to fix. I would say the warranty is 1 year.
It's more than a year old, that's for sure...hmm, I think I'll just pop into a local shop and see what they're going to charge, thanks.
