I just bought a used Xbox 360 on eBay and when I got it is was fine no problems. A few days later I get 3 rings of death error code 0102. I did the X Clamp replacement and booted up again. It worked but when I actually plunged it into the TV the Xbox logo was not there and purple swirls where there but then when the dashboard loaded everything was normal. I signed in but 30 seconds later the Xbox froze and I shut it off. I thought it was network lag because this sometimes happens on my other new Xbox then comes back and the lag is gone. So I removed all storage devices and 30 seconds later it froze again. I think the problem is overheating due to my crappy thermal paste. I am ordering some Arctic Silver now hopefully to fix this problem. This was the closest I got to getting to work. I messed around with the bolts and the Xbox gives a different error code. Like if too tight error 0002 - Network/Power failure and if too loose error code 0020 - Overheating. I am going to try better bolts this time. Unfortunately I have another problem. After I start up the Xbox and it shows the weird purple colors if I have a storage device inserted like my Memory Unit it will freeze but if nothing is inserted it takes longer to crash.
So my 1st question is Do you think this could be something more serious than overheating like something else on the motherboard could have died? My 2nd question is if I completely clean off the old thermal paste and get the Arctic Silver will this fix the freezing and messed up colors on startup?
