Its just annoying the fact that Microsft said the HD and wireless controller were standard when they clearly are not. This is going to stop developers bothering taking advantage of the hard drive and reduce the overall quality of games. I know for a fact that one game I want to get (Football Manager 2006) will require the hard drive so I'm going to have to get the premium kit. Then backwards compatability and live won't work without a HD so it makes you wonder what's the point in the "core" package and then you realise it is purely for marketing. People see the 360 advertised at £210 so they go out and buy it, what they don't realise is by the time they've come out the store they've just spent £400 quite clever really but it does annoy the more educated consumer.Zitat:

true but I have no problem paying £280 for a 9.6ghz powerpc multi core processors with a graphics card worth around £300. And well not really marketing , football manager will require the memory card but alot of it i imagine. Live does work I think you just cant download stuff. I think tbh its for the average home who doesnt care about internet, extra content etc. Its for the average woman that buys ther kid a console thats all. Then the £280 is for the gamer. Makes perfect sense really. I think we do forget wireless technology isnt cheap and we were expecting alot of them to make it affordable.Zitat:

* Xbox 360 Component HD-AV Cable. This connects gamers to the world of Xbox 360 games and graphics through high-definition and standard-definition connections.
out of the box will work with standard tvs thank god.
I see both points of your arguments guys...
And FM 2006 will be top of my wishlist!
Just gotta wait for the price of HD TV's to come down now.Zitat:
Zitat von OblivionX
Saying that, my dad just bought one..looks like I'll be taking my 360 over if I visit at Xmas!
Well I think I'm going to wait for a price drop. There are a few nigggling questions I want answered such as will I be able to use live without a credit card and will games such as football manager require a hard drive (I imagine it will or load times would suck otherwise and it'd take up nearly a whole memory card)?Zitat:
Zitat von OblivionX
Thank God for that I wouldn't fancy spending an extra £18 on a scart cable.Zitat:
Zitat von OblivionX
You can use xbox live without a credit card. According to EDGE you can buy pre-payment cards and just enter a serial number then just top it up like you would a pay as you go phone.Zitat:
Zitat von brain_stew
well as with all those types of games it uses alot of the memory card. Tbh the hard drive is the way to go. I mean £280 isnt expensive for what you get. Im getting it off play.com for £298. £280 for the console + £18 wired controller. And pd0 is £40 off ther instead of £50 but im gonna wait til amazon have a price up for it.Zitat:
Zitat von brain_stew
No i thought it was a prepaid card and you still need the credit card to make anacoutn even if its not used. Like 2 month free trailsZitat:
Zitat von Giga Phil
No, the whole point is that you don't need a credit card to play xbox live using this method.Zitat:

Bah! To me who cares how much it is this year??
I wouldn't think about buying it until they include the HD-DVD drive (without it this version will have a tough time on it's hands)
This version reminds me of the Dreamcast (great system, great games) but launched with a GD-ROM (bah!) drive instead of a DVD. That was a killer (especially in Japan where DVD drives were extremely rare because of the price of a standalone).
Then the PS2 launches and actually brought an affordable DVD drive to the market as well as a next generation game system. That's what really made the DVD market (games systems with DVD drives) and helped make it as popular as it is.
The same future is currently lined up for the 360 if they keep it up. HD-DVD currently has no market and when the first standalone players come out they will be priced out of most people's price range. The Xbox 360 is potentially the only way to get an affordable HD-DVD drive. Insert PS3 with it's Blue-Ray drive (HD-DVD) and we see the same thing that sparked PS2 sales and made a new movie format affordable and popular.
No HD-DVD = Not worth it because you know it's coming. It's also a pretty good guess we would see a console price drop at around the same time PS3 launches. It will be there attempt to slow down the PS3 (or the same price as it is now but will include a HD-DVD drive)
If I was everyone I would just wait (it may not mean too much for you now but you never know 3 or 4 years from now you may be upset you didn't wait for that HD-DVD drive). Taking into account the 20 gig HD is around $100 to buy it separately think how much an HD-DVD drive add-on is going to be!
Save your money :) Force them to give us what they want! When the competition arrives then you will get your money's worth :)
But hey I won't fault anyone for picking it up, I understand. For me though I can wait like 6 months for the PS3 and/or HD-DVD. At least by that time the launch titles will be dirt cheap and we will have new games to look forward too
in 3 or 4 years il be out of uni and in a full time job and wudnt care about price, if i need a hd-dvd player or a blu ray one id go out and buy one. Im not buying a console so that I can watch movies on it.
I read that was only in Germany. Cos they dont like credit cards etc...Zitat:

That's probably the best news I've heard all day I'd heard about it but wasn't sure if it had been confirmed. So I've got an old Live subscription card that I've never been able to use due to lack of the right type of card do you reckon that I'll be able to use this now? If so, that means all I'll be shelling out to go online with PD0 will be about £320 and I'm sure bundles will reduce that to £300 add in a third party wired controller and I should be ready to go for £320, oh and a couple of batteries. Hmm, if I can convince my brother to go halfs I'll get it at launch otherwise I may wait for a price drop or go to the very basic and get a pad and a game for less than £250 and buy the rest when I've got the cash. Aghh, I know what ever I decide I'll end up regretting it.Zitat:

Ya i think it said that on xbox-sceneZitat:

Ahem, have you seen the price its launching for? if thats not getting your money's worth...what is??Zitat:

I know, a lot of people don't buy a game console to watch movies that's really not the point.Zitat:
Zitat von OblivionX
But if you can get that option for pretty much the same price, why not take it?
I know I want my money's worth and the fact they said they would include it in future versions makes me say, I can wait :)
But hey...to each is own :) I guess I'm just a looking for the best value whore :Punk:
Speak for yourself, in Europe no one gives a damn about HD because well there's only like two people who actually own a HDTV. This means that it will be an unnecessary cost for the PS3 in Europe and will be a burdon that will help Microsoft gain market share in Europe. I know the same may not be the case in the US and Japan but I'm just letting you know not everyone is so fussed about HD.Zitat:
Zitat von Merovingian
XBOX Live does not require a credit card to re-subscribe. I noticed before that in the game stores they have XBL subscription cards. I have found some online, but I am almost 100% sure that they sell these in stores too: [Click here for example/item]
I know...but that's today :)Zitat:
Zitat von brain_stew
3 or 4 years ago you could say the same thing about the US and JPN. When the PS2 and Xbox lanuched I didn't know anyone with a HDTV. In 3 or 4 years a lot of you could have HDTV's but nothing to use on them :)
The prices have fallen near the realm of regular TV's in the last 3 or 4 years and will continue to fall.
I understand today it may not matter to you but tomorrow you might be kicking yourself for not waiting a little bit :)
i've used them before, they ask you for a code, you put that in,and then it says the date you started that supscrition and the day it ends but you still require the use of a credit card to put into the account.Zitat:
Zitat von FrozenIpaq
i know when LCD tvs are around 1500 for big ones i will buy them.Zitat:
Zitat von Merovingian
Yeah I got one of those with my starter pack but I can't register it without a credit card and as my parents don't have a credit card I can't borrow there's. Seriosuley if they take away the need for a credit card Microsoft will please a hell of a lot of people because well I have more sense than to touch a credit card and I know a lot of other people who are the same.Zitat:
Zitat von FrozenIpaq
we will have the hdtv and xbox 360 with the HD cable. The only thing i wont have is hi def movies. And since sony look like ther going to win the war of formats therz no point in the 360 having one.Zitat:
Zitat von Merovingian
I don't think you realise how far behind we are. Mainstream shops have only just started stocking HD ready TV's and no one transmits HD atm (although Sky will start soon). HDTVs currently cost over £2000 and that's $3600 the average consumer simply won't be able to afford one for atleast 5 - 10 years i.e. not until the next gen. of hardware. That is why in Europe the inclusion of HD-DVD or Bluray would be a very bad move for the European market. For me personally, I know I won't be able to affor one for about 6 years and plus, I think you fail to realise a lot of people run their consoles of the old portable in their bedrooms.Zitat:
Zitat von Merovingian
Yes, I've seen it :) I'm not saying it's good or bad. What I am saying is what the PS3 launch is potentially 6 months or less away from the Xbxo 360. Do you really think Microsoft won't do anything to try and steal sales from the PS3 launch?Zitat:
Zitat von woodsey1982
Price drop? HD-DVD drives? New bundle with game?. They will do something to try and stop the onslaught of PS3 sales. I think I want wait a few months to a half a year to get in on those specials :) Besides you will have a nice selection of games to choose from at that time, not just the 2 or 3 good games that come from a console launch :)
But hey like I said...I understand - everyone what's the have the latest and greatest no matter the cost. I used to be exactly like that, but now I find it easier to just wait I have the end of life games on the Xbox and PS2 (plus my PSP) to tide me over until then lol
You talking as if the ps3p acks are any better. don't get your hopes on the ps3 being a better dealZitat:
Zitat von Merovingian
the ps3 isnt out in the Uk til 2007. And will be £400 with 1 controller and no hard disk. Its going to be far to expensive.
Edit: if it made 2006 i cudnt buy it neway, you will wanna see my alcohol bill during world cup 2006.
Honestly that was where the US was 3 or 4 years ago. You couldn't go near any HDTV's for less than $3000. A Plasma screen was only at a few high end stores and sometimes you have to drive 30 miles just to see one lol.Zitat:
Zitat von brain_stew
It's too far off where we were and now you can get HDTV's ranging from $1000 - $5000+. I remember when you couldn't see a plasma screen for under $3000 and now you can find one for about $1299 or less (if you search hard enough). Just in the past year we have seen prices drop dramaticlly and it's only going to get better.
But like I said...I understand your point of view :) For me though I would just perfer to wait the 6 months and get a better deal - but I have that kind of patience now (maybe it's the older age haha).
my xbox 360 wil be on my 15 inch portable tv in my room lol. So i cudnt give a **** about HD.
I don't think the PS3 will be the better deal...Zitat:
Zitat von SovietSlayer
I actually think the Xbox 360 will be the better deal by far when the PS3 launches.
It will have been on the market for a while and it will need to compete a little harder to win people over.
At that point I think the best deal will be the Xbox 360 and that's when I will be picking one up (probably, unless I don't see the promised HD-DVD of course lol)
My point exactly, bluray is bad for the European market, a PS3 with a standard DVD drive but at a £300 price tag would sell a hell of a lot more in Europe. Now, when the PS3 is launched the basic 360 pack will be under £200 (mabey even as little as £150). The average consumer is going to look at the shelves see all their favourite EA games are on the 360 and decide they'd be better off buying the 360 and saving £250. Don't underestimate the amount of parents that buy consoles for thier kids who are the most price conscious consumers around. All they know is that their kids want to play Fifa and the latest Harry Potter game; the parent will go with the 360 9 times out of 10.Zitat:
