Folks will still be playing Gears of War long after Halo 3 is launched.

The sad thing is, it doesn't need to be a great game. Halo 2 had, TBH rather ****ty and unbalanced multiplayer, and its still topping charts today-almost three years after its release.
I have very little doubt that halo 3 will boost the sales of the xbox exponentially, if it is a great game or not. Already this many preorders? Millions more will buy the game after.

I agree with you except about Halo 2s multiplayer being bad.

Unbalanced maybe but still very very fun.

Fun...yes, at times. In the very beginning it was awsome-no modders, no cheaters, everyone was respectful, etc. Then along came the prepubescents and cheaters...and well, it was downhill from there. You can find a fun game, but they are pretty hard to get.

There will be a big console jump due to all the games coming out this year (most notably Halo 3, GTA IV) but it won't be 5 million.

Everyone who's wanted a 360 has gotten one, since there's no reason to wait. Tons of good games have come out already, unlike the PS3, who has not gotten it's major titles yet.

Neither has the Wii for that matter, but it's cheap so parents love it

You know, people say that, but that's not exactly true. There are still a lot of people who just play Halo 2 and are waiting until Halo 3 comes out. Hell you could say that with the PS2. All the good games have come out, so everybody already has one. But people are still buying that machine every week, and it's selling very well.

PS2 has different colors though, wasn't selling this well before them.
